This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good, cuz the topic was pretty well dried up.
Thanks Ruthy, and good evening :~D
hehehehe....
Has anyone else ridden Cyn besides ecurbh?
Wasn't TAR on last night? *puzzled*
I'm with your daughter, Rose. Make mine a pie. Keep the beets. ;)
We watch TAR on 116 Game every evening at 9pm apart from Tuesdays when it comes on a local channel. The one we are watching is not the family group one. It's pretty good though and I am happy that my daughter immediatly says she doesnt want the awful teams to win. Just fun! : )
Terrific!
Speaking of favorite shows, LOST just started. Back later.
Looks like everyone is showing back up at the same time.
I was going thru the pictures I took today to delete the ones I didn't want to keep and found some that I missed that I wanted to post. Hope no one minds more picutres:
Trail coming up out of the deep water crossing
This next picture has a bit of a story behind it. This old hollow log has been out there on this trail since I first rode this trail 19 years ago. I still remember the first time I rode past it. For some reason (probably because I was such a city slicker) I thought this hollow log was the coolest thing. For a long time I referred to this trail as the trail with the hollow log. 19 years ago it wasn't falling apart. When it first started cracking up, I remember thinking, dam, I don't want that thing to disappear. But so far it's still here:) Isn't if funny the things we can get sentimental about.
Looking down the county line road, my property is at the bottom on the left.

Those are cool, glad you posted them! :~D Rocky parts! And big flat rocks to step over!
We do have bands of rocky ground here, called glacial till, that are all round rocks, like river rocks, supposedly carried along and ground smooth by the glaciers during the ice age, and then they melted out. We have only a little of that here at home, it's my goal to go to any property we seek to buy and dig a post hole. I don't want to have to dig 100 post holes for a boarding stable in one of those rocky pieces of ground :~D
I like the hollow log story, I'm glad you still have it :~D
Bay would probably still be leery of it, after all these years, sure something might be lurking in it :~D
If we knew then what we know now, we probably wouldn't have bought this land. I really don't regret it now tho. The rocks are probably a big reason there isn't more people living out here and putting up fences. So they are a blessing as much as a problem.
Becky
Bay is no different then me then:) I still look to see if something isn't living in it. So far I've never seen anything in it or coming out. That's always surprised me in a way. I thought hollow logs were a favorite for animals.

I don't know why they wouldn't want to live in it :~D
The stinger should kill everything but the grass,I've seen it kill the toughest thistles{gets all of the roots too, they never come back},and blackberry bushes. Even kills out multi-floral roses, one of the worst pest weeds to ever get in a pasture.
If I lived at your place I think I would have built lots of rockeries stone walls and paths of steppings stones and such... but that's only what I ~think~ I'd have done. Like moving panels around, the idea probably loses it's charm in practice :~D
It does lose it charm fast. I did all that stuff, now they all just go in my pile:). All the newbie people moving in the neighbor hood have them hauled off in dump trucks and then lay sod.
Becky
As long as he didn't pull the grass roots out-the pasture should be OK.It's too late to reseed now.If your pasture is too thin then try interseeding with a no till drill next year,I think early April would be a good time to try.
Be sure to mow the pasture short before seeding.
OOOOOOO....we're getting big thunder and lightening right now. Maybe the heat is finally going to break.
