The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL It's the nearest we get to snow here! : )
Fall hasn't really started here......the grass is still growing and everything is still green. I love fall colors though and am looking forward to that when we head to KY in a few weeks time! : )
I asked Emma to go and take a pic of the horses, she is still experimenting with her new camera, and we got one decent one that wasn't blurry. Both Smokey and Sugar are due a bath this weekend. : ) Deaconjims back is a lot better now, so hopefully we can get another ride in as well!
We have our home on the market and are trying to finish projects started and keep the house as neat as a pin at the same time. Not easy!

Good pics Sharn! Since we're doing cotton pics, here's one of a cotton picker, but not a very good one. I wanted to get the front end where all the teeth are, but he'd just turned around...

Here's a pic of that the big modules that they pack it into for transport out of the field and to the gin. Each of them is the size of a semi-trailer. It hasn't been ginned at this point. The numbers spray painted on the sides are the farm number. That's how they know who it belongs to when it gets to the gin...

I've been trying to get a pic of the big compactors that they make these modules with but haven't had any luck so far. They've always been too far away. Also the trucks that they pick these up with are cool. They're like a big semi-trailer that tilts up like a dump truck, then the whole thing slides backward and down to the ground. The bed is filled with long tracks of spiked chains like a conveyor that pull the module up into the trailer as the driver backs up. When they've got it in there, they just tilt it back down and drive off. It's way better than hauling loose cotton in open mesh trailers and having it blow all over the road. It blows bad enough as it is.

This is a beautiful photo. Nice composition, pretty picture of his eye and expression, and the colors are great.

Well if you are all interested, cotton picking is going on around us, so maybe tommorow before it gets too hot, I'll go out and take some pics of the process. The kids always get to ride in this huge cotton picker. They love it! : )

Your little munchkin Jack Russels are cute :~D

I couldn't sleep. And then while I was layin' there the phone rang and I had to get up.

Dan the Saddle man calling back. He's coming out on Tuesday to re-evaluate Bay's saddle fit and pad arrangement and see he needs something new.

Really, I truely almost didn't post it, because I thought it rather dull. But you did make me look at it differently. I didn't even notice before the tree reflected in the water. I was taking this picture to show the bottom of the creek but it's rather hard to tell that it's one big solid rock.

Wow, that would be nice.

Altho Harley isn't coming up sore, or hasn't so far, I'm still wondering. The last two times I have ridden, the hair up towards his withers is all ruffled when I take the saddle and pad off. I've never noticed that before, It's usually been smooth. I don't know if that means anything or not.

Hopefully Dan the Saddle man can tell you why Bay got that white spot and fix it.

You've got the reflected tree, the leaves floating in the water, and the sky is nicely reflected so it's really blue. Blue water is hard to get in a creek. The picture has a lot of good stuff happening :~D

Yeah - I wanted him to come out and do this while Bay is still in winter coat, so I'm sure he can see it. I still have my hopes up that he'll shed it in the spring.

He did say that it's possible it was just from the one ride without the cashell, but also possible that his back has dropped some more and he needs to build up something in the middle.

I'll bet they do. Farm kids and tractors go together like dogs and water. Most of the big farm equipment these days has A/C, CD players and GPS controls. It's amazing!

Oh - and I offered to bring Bay in to the shop for him to fit it, so he didn't have to bring all the stuff... but he said he actually likes getting out of the shop, and I'm not far, so he'd just as soon come out.

Wow, those are some big bales!

Mack and i went to Tunica one time. There were cotton fields all around all the casinos. It was cold while we were there, so the fields were all dead and brown. But I remember thinking I'd have loved to see them while they were still green and right before harvest.

What kind of stuff does he have to bring, pads, or some kind of tools to measure with?

Wow.... Sugar's got an enormous wither and low back too, like Bay does. Just a head's up that if you ever do start riding much, some care will need to be paid to saddle fit on her too or she'll get a sore back. Standard stuff probably won't fit her right. Being a white horse, you're not going to get white hairs that help tell you you have a problem.

Smokey has a significant wither too, but not so much as Sugar.

I know you don't know a lot about Sugar's history, but she's carried some weight in life... like my Bay.

As for the mud... light horses are the worst. :~D
