Not a big soccer fan but I really, really, hope we beat Mexico!

Scoreless in the 19th minute. Very direct style from USA so far with decent control of the play. I'd like to see us settle down a bit.

USA looks good overall, good passing and winning the ball. Mexico looks very, very conservative right now.

This game is going to lose control soon if this ref does not card Mex for the dirty play.

There have been some late challenges. But I don't see retaliation or squaring up. But I don't see direct play opening up their back line, either.

And just like that, Reyna winds up going in the book.

Finally, a Mexican winds up in the book.

Well, it will get there. God willing. Leave it to me to show up when the game isn't flowing well. LOL!! Hopefully, I'll catch it when we've scored.

It hasn't been pretty. The referee has let a lot go in both directions, players on both sides are getting caught in possession and the only American player who has impressed me is Onyewu.

Halftime. Superb save by Keller on a Mexican set piece just before the half.

Glad to find this thread!
I started one up that can now be killed.
Odd match, both teams tenative and a bit out of synch, dirty as hell, but expected against Mexico.

Every now and again we get a good live thread about football as played with the feet :)
Tactically, I hope Arena has some better ideas for the second half. I don't see us beating Mexico by trying to run at them. We didn't generate any sort of sustained pressure in the first half - due in part to the physicality, of course.
