They scrounged and scrounged to find the money just to keep gas in the automobile but they did what they had to to get themselves and their children to safety."

Gob bless them and the people who are "putting them up". I'm also glad to hear they had a vehicle between the 14 of them. This ought to tell you something, but I doubt it will get through.

What should it tell me? That they started out with several vehicles but as they ran out of gas they had to consolidate the people into the remaining vehicles until they were down to one?
