Statement from NBC regarding tonight's comments from Kanye West on the telethon: "Tonight's telecast was a live television event wrought with emotion. Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks. It would be most unfortunate if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person's opinion."

I would have no problem with NBC whatsoever if they had just said this during their broadcast. If they had just given this simple disclaimer it wouldn't have left people with the impression that NBC and the Red Cross really didn't have much of a problem with spreading lies about the troops that are risking their own lives to save these people. And perhaps they could've gone the second mile and apologized to all the relief workers and their families. If someone wants to Bush bash that's nothing new (even though it's insensitive timing), but to complain about the military shooting at snipers that are blocking the relief effort is so far beyond repugnant that all those involved with this show should be feeling the need to apologize profusely.

Agreed. I wrote back to NBC after receiving the Statement.
Complained that Matt "Lower" should have said something like it on the air instead of that "difference of opinion crap."
Also wrote to the local NBC affiliate and today@nbc.com.
