A friend of mine, named Cherilyn, and I have been exchanging emails today on the on-going "drama" of Cindy Sheehan, and my friend sent what I consider to be a dead-on analysis of the left. (I've included my own comments in response to hers, which I emailed back to her. I share her thoughts for the good of the order.)
[Cherilyn:] To continue my rant about radical left/liberals: I have observed that there seem to be two groups (probably more...). One group is the ruling elite, who want power, and will do whatever they can to get it. These people are partially socialist in the way they want the country run and "solutions" to the "problems" we have in our country...
[Me:] They're also flaming secularlists. More and more, I'm seeing the political battles today as being less about competing ideologies, and more as a series of spiritual battles. Jacques Ellul said 40 years ago that in "today's" culture (Europe, early 1960s, but true here today), particularly the culture of the left left, the state has become god, politics is their religion, and politicians the priesthood. I think this is the big reason that conservatives tend to be Christians and believing Jews, and vice-versa -- leftist politics are actually antithetical to belief in God, and I believe that consequently, God stands opposed to most leftist politics because it amounts to rank idolatry.
[C:] ...But they are only socialist in so far as they don't have to follow the rules they lay down for others...
[Me:] Just like the members of the Soviet Politboro.
[C:] ...These people in many ways view their political agenda as a means to an end -- the end being the ability to use power. Their goal is to be dictators (why I don't know), and be able to rule over others...
[Me:] Well, following my previous thought, they get to be "chief priests" in the temple worship of contemporary liberalism -- dispensers of blessings as well as cursings, and having the masses depend upon them for their welfare. This is pretty heady stuff for people who operate out of arrogance.
[C:] ...In this we see a cynical use and abuse of power and position (the Clintons come to mind), as well as a carefully orchestrated message that has no bearing on the truth -- only geared to get the person elected, in power, and to stay in power. As a Christian I believe they are a tool of Satan [Me: ditto that, as I said above] intent on destroying individuals, and nations. They are what Paul speaks of in Romans chapter 1, when he talks about people who do evil and approve of those who do it as well.
The second group are the poor dumb numbskulls who suffer from arrested development...
[Me:] Agreed -- the left preys upon the dysfunctional -- and the more dysfunctional the better, because the great dysfunctional masses are suseptible to being led around by the nose, and are in need of being "rescued".
[C:] They detest rules, limitations placed on their behavior, and taking personal responsibility. They consistently identify with victim mentality because it never requires anyone to become independent, and to take responsibility for their actions. They are the spoiled brat baby boomers who should have been spanked when they were growing up in the 50s but weren't. They resent rules, but make lots of them for other people (such as: politically-correct terms and speech, as well as draconian environmental rules), and never believe that the rules apply to them. They want things "fair" but don't think anything of behaving unfairly to others. They've never grown up in the sense that they think others should make life easy for them. If by some chance they are ethical enough to try to live by what they preach they do it self-righteously, in protected communities that enable them to live "alternative" lifestyles and think that it works (communties such as Davis, Arcata, and Berkeley, Calif.). It is from these people that we get the Cindy Sheehans. Both groups share arrogance and condescension in their methods and language. They are impatient of debate (while touting free speech), and they are lazy -- intellectually in particular (this is how "folklore facts" come about, it is too much trouble to check facts -- much easier to accept what someone else says is true). You add into this mix a strong co-dependent streak which loves creating and then wallowing in drama, and you have the current radical/liberal left. ------ So there is my "deep" thinking while shopping at Costco today,
Cherilyn
[Me:] Awesome comments, Cherilyn, and you're right on. I spent four years taking political science courses in college, combined with over 30 years as a Christian working in government and politics, observing the political behavior of Americans, to come to these same conclusions. You've arrived at them through keen observation and gut-level insight. I salute you.
Greg
Or, to put it another way, the Democratic party is the unscrupulous leading the ignorant.
Concise way of putting it, but you are correct.
Who are the "ruling elite"? I thought we were.
We've got Congress, the White House, the SCOTUS and the mainstream media. What more do we want?
Your friend Cherilyn is absolutely dead on. Her ideas are some of the core principles I am using in my book.
I particularly agree with her assessment of liberals being intellectually lazy. I have an advanced education in science, mathematics, engineering and business and have written many papers. I have gotten into discussions with a few liberals who fancied themselves as being intellectuals ; when I am through with them they look and feel like drooling retarded morons. I challenge them on every premise they make and demolish their positions with facts and figures. They are reduced to name calling and I remind them of how they lost the debate because they have resorted to that. I love driving the knife in deep when it comes to liberals.
Let us know when your book is published. It should be a great read.
In other words, their true natures emerge. :)
The book is going to show how Christianity and liberalism are incompatible with each other. It will also show how liberalism stifles spiritual growth , maturity and preventing people from reaching their potential.
You are right about liberals being drooling morons :)It is their natural state when they are exposed. It is symptomatic of their separation from God.
Darth, that sounds like an awesome book. Please publicize it heavily on FR when it comes out, and please be diligent to finish it! Something like this is needed. I've been talking up the spiritual implications of our political battles in this country for over 20 years to whomever will listen. I hope you secure a wide audience.
It is very very important for Christians to know these things. And you are confirming for me the importance of what I am doing. My life has been heavily influenced by another great Californian, the late Edwin Louis Cole. He had a fabulous analytical mind like I have. I have read his books and followed his teachings and they have brought absolutely awesome spiritual power and blessing into my life. The body must be empowered by God to perform its purpose and the influx of liberalism, selfishness and humanism is short circuiting the power of the Holy Spirit and then the manifestation of the power of God the Father in our lives. Look at all the Christian on Christian bashing that is going on here on FR. This is one of the things that is holding it back. Instead of looking at their Christian brothers as being specialists in certain areas there is a lot of ugly finger pointing and accusing each other of bad things. Some criticisms are very valid based upon spiritual truth but a lot is becoming nasty and is grieving God.
You're touching a nerve with me...perhaps a "Holy Spirit" nerve. I'm thrilled to hear you articulate your convictions on this, and you can be assured that God is moving to purify His church, and what you're talking about is a definite area where purification, insight, discernment, and alignment within the church with God's heart and mind are needed.
"You're touching a nerve with me...perhaps a "Holy Spirit" nerve."
I'm glad to confirm things for you and inspire you but it is the Lord is who guides and teaches me. Keep up the good work in your endeavors as well.
Darth, whenever one puts up a thread on FR, one never knows what kind of response it will get (if any). I'm glad I posted my exchange with my friend Cherilyn, for no other reason than I've been able to hear of your convictions and efforts in this area. God bless.
The Lord used your story to confirm to me the things I am addressing with conviction. It was His hand that moved yours.
