Not much smaller than a mid-90's Camry, and available full-time 4WD.

I've heard that it's essentially a Corolla engine, though - no pep.

Also I'd have to wait another four years or so for them to get old so I could afford a used one. ;-)

But they're one of the kewlest looking cars out there, IMO, so there's that.

Dunno what kind of Speed Racer-Mobile you're used to, but my cousin's fiancee has a '96 Crayola* wagon I find to be a zippy li'l bugger, and if the Matrix/Vibe has the same power plant, I'd take it.

*Along with Camray and Land Crusher, pet names for models in the Tie-Yoda line :) Along with the Scion xActly, xBox, and TwoCool.
