If you think it's a skunk, you might get a skunk trap. It's basically a trap out of plastic pipe just small enough that the skunk can not lift his tail. Only one good way to empty it though...into a pond...at least that's what our conservation dept guy said. If you trap it in a regular trap, getting rid of it will be real interesting! Keep us posted.

Hmmm... plastic pipe... skunk...
Yah' know... if'n you mount a striker from a coleman lantern in the back end... spray in some Aquanet... screw on an endcap...
Then you got yerself a skunk launcher. :-)
The naybers six doors down would never figure it out. :-)
What a good idea!
I actually have a friend at church who takes care of stuff like this...had forgotten until a member of the BA CHEF egroup reminded me!
I may just talk to them on Sunday.
I did set up a thick layer of sand by the door...will hopefully get some better tracks. Gonna melt some wax and pour it into the track if I do...
I was gonna do plaster of paris, but I have wax. I think it'll do, but I'll take pictures first, in case I mess up the track.
Or you can use a regular live trap. Just approach the trap slowly while holding a large tarp in front of you, hiding you from the skunk. When you get to the trap, slowly cover the trap with the tarp. Wait until skunk quiets down. Sink trap in a garbage can filled with water.
Animal control people I've talked to say that's the only way to dispose of a skunk without an "accident". Or you may get lucky, and the skunk is on "empty" after an earlier blast. It takes about two weeks to build up a full charge.
