Basically they're really rich frosted spice cookies...usually in bar form, and usually with nuts and raisins, which I don't always like. But these ones have the raisins all ground up, and they just add flavor and sweetness. It's the texture of 'em I don't like...so I really like these.

Actually, what happened was that we were discussing words and trends that are different across the country...like the word for a sub sandwich (the local New England term would be a grinder, though the younger folks don't use that word as much), and this guy asked me if I knew what hermit cookies were. I never realized they were unique to the Northeast, but I guess they aren't as well known elsewhere.

I gotta get his recipe, I'm thinking. They're good.
