These are the people who refused to evacuate and then found themselves stranded. To be fair, many of the people trying to get into the Superdome on Sunday were unable to leave the city for various reasons: no vehicle, no money to rent a vehicle (not that any were available by that time anyway) too old and/or sick to travel, etc.

yeah, as I reread that I find it a little strong. A lot of people needed somewhere to go as they could not evacuate, however, there weer many of those in the superdome who were not helpless or incapable, and could have helped themselves. Now they can't and are relying solely on help from other's.
Somehow people must be made to understand that they can help themselves, and that even in the face of death, they can come together and overcome things like this. People apparently cannot think for themselves or work together to help each other down there. Our society has created a bunch of dependency cases. It is more widespread than I ever imagined.
I just want to collectively slap them and say "Snap out of it and get a grip! YOU are the adult, and YOU have to take care of YOUR family/neighbors. What are YOU going to do to ensure THEIR health and safety?"
