The Hobbit Hole XXIV - Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
Please see our Hobbit Hole Troop Support project blog! ^

Posted on 08/24/2005 9:50:25 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I welcome the rain since I know it'll bring cooler temps.

Our harsh summer heat usually starts to fade in late October.

We always have a hot sun, but when the breeze feels like A/C - who cares? :-D

That said, I really want to go riding tomorrow, so I hope the rain will skip a day.

We 7
They 10
Rain 357

The rain won. If'n I'd been wearin' any, I woulda been soaked down to my underoos. I hadda go and I was wet enough to consider just why I even needed to walk across the stadium to the men's room...but I did.

We lost the game in overtime. Our guy fumbled on the 2nd down. It weren't pretty. This is the ~big~ cross county rival.

Yeah it was pretty bad. They got a field goal in overtime. Then we had possession of the ball and fumbled it.

It's a grudge match every year. Some kids from our school went over and spray painted their stadium. It was stoopid, but they'll do it back to us (or worse) next year.

Then there was the streaker...actually he was wearing a speedo. But he ran out from their side on the 50 yd. line, patted their players on the butt and ran to the endzone and jumped the fence.

Well, we did comment on the fact that in our day, he wouldn't have been wearing the speedo.

And we got a good laugh out of it Ruthy. What was even funnier was watching the school officials walk over to the fence he jumped as if they could catch him.

This fence was a 7-8 ft. chain link fence. The kid hoisted himself up and over, pretty much in one move. He was long gone before they even got over there.

Yah.

Had a fun movie in my player for the flight though... watched "Dr. Strangelove". It's been forever since I've seen that. Forgot how hysterical it is.

Learned something new... in that I never remembered that a VERY young James Earl Jones plays the part of one the crew on the B-52 with Mr. Pickens. He had "the voice" even then.

Well, "a show of force" and all that rot.

They had to make a minimal effort to catch him, even if it was a casual stroll to the fence.
