Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sand and Stone and Pool and Dell...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

That's where I think the dealing with it head on comes into play. Heh, I vote for dodging and fibbing - but that's just my low character talking. :)
To: Corin Stormhands

Then just tell them it was time well spent developing your relationship and a very thoughtful gift on their part.* DANGER WILL ROBINSON * DANGER WILL ROBINSON *
They ~will~ ask questions. This conference talks about their alumni. They'll want to talk about the sessions.
IMHO, the absolute worse thing you can possibly do is to be deceptive in ANY WAY. It'll just backfire and make things worse.

Yeah - I haven't gotten away with that tactic since high school, when the folks would drop us at the mall for the G or PG movie, and we'd sneak into the R film instead.
"So did you like the movie? Was it good? What was it about?"
Too many questions I don't know the answer to!

They ~will~ ask questions. This conference talks about their alumni. They'll want to talk about the sessions. Just tell 'em that it's a bunch of crap and you walked out...or that you got into an argument about it and didn't hear all the sessions....or that you had a second honeymoon and the heck with the sessions.
To: Overtaxed
You're just trying to get us in trouble, aren't you?
OK, now we're ~really~ off to the dump.

I'm in the process of organizing that troop support "Christmas card" crafts day...I've got a Marine lined up to speak and mingle with the kids...I've just got to lock down a location and a date.Let me know when you're having the Marine do the mingling. We can have a Hobbit Hole knife (we actually have quite a lineup now), waiting. The kids don't have to see it, although Marines and knives do go together.

Don't go, and if they ask you about it say you didn't go and that [something else] would have been a better wedding present.
I'm a baaaaaaad hobbit!

Don't go, and if they ask you about it say you didn't go and that [something else] would have been a better wedding present. That may be the best suggestion of the day.
