Same here. And since I was on the Y2K remediation team in IT, my worst-case fears were short interruptions of food and water, and power. I'm still pretty-well set for that.
But after seeing how the RATS can make a major disaster into a total apocalypse, I've decided to add another "kit". I've always included a handgun in my planning, but I've decided when the the sh*t hits the fan, only a rifle can take care of business.
I'm fitting our this rifle/backpack with mags and ammo, some first aid supplies, a hydration bladder, and a bit of food. This will be the first thing I grab.
Number two will be more food, water, and meds, including copies of prescriptions to prove what I need for resupply, as well as important papers. I already carry copies of my financial data on my Swiss Army USB drive.
Number 3 will be clothes. After that, "luxuries". Note that none of this is based on "wait three days for someone to take you to a relocation center".
Ex-Army like myself will recognize a certain brief interrogatory sound in the General's response :)
Hmmm, now there's a good reason for me to get one of them.
To heck with financial data... the bank has all the money, and the creditors will find us ;~D
My evac plan involves knowing how to pull my hard drives and having a padded watertight case to put 'em in. (I have three with a total of 400 GB though I'm not anywhere near using all of that) I can always plug 'em into a new 'puter if only to suck the important stuff off of 'em.
Ok, guys, take care of yourselves.
Sigh. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter but why exactly, when I was just hitting my stride with school, does my every semester "get hit with Martian Death Flu" have to come now? I can't breathe, I'm alternating between fever and chills, and I'm trying to decide if I'm starving or likely to puke.
Yeah, if we had time, I'd pull the hard drives. But in case of a house-on-fire type situation, it'd be nice to be able to have digital copies of important docs handy.
Consider a regimen of vitamin and mineral supplements to boost your immunity.
I didn't think I was that stressed... good idea, I have vitamins that I forget to take about every other day.
I'm thinking about scanning my homeowner's and car insurance policies and such and any job application-type info and storing it on the email server.
Evenin folks.
LOST starts in 15 minutes. Or at least the recap episode before the season premiere at 9. *smile*
And don't worry, I remember the rule about spoilers.
Yeah. It's gonna be hard to wait...since we don't have cable, we don't get to watch it tonight.
I suggested watching for a neighbor to walk out their door, clubbing 'em, and then watching at their place...but I guess maybe that's not the best plan.
Thank you Ruthy! Enjoy!
I am almost tempted to look for a live feed, but those things are so low quality and they go out every time something exciting happens.
If I were in your shoes, I'd start finding out if any of your friends or likeable co-workers are LOST fans.
Chances are, they'd have cable and you could make it a weekly get-together!
I know if I lived closer, you two would be more than welcome to come over for a popcorn and LOST night every Wednesday. :-D
They aaarren't. I've been trying but they haven't had time. Sillies!
Maybe I can find some somewhere.
I'll be back on a bit. Setting up for the show.
I don't really have friends here yet. But maybe once I do, I can convert 'em to LOST fans, if'n they aren't already.
Wish you lived closer!
