I have to put in my two cents here on that one.
Dove chocolate or Ghirardelli are the best for everyday consumption and purchasability. (Both American I believe, but don't get me to lyin' - Ghirardelli from San Fran, Dove from ?)
Now, Godiva, that is some slammin' chocolate.
Their truffles are just......I can't talk about this anymore. I may have an erotic moment.
Funny, but I don't like Godiva chocolate! I know, I know...I'm wierd! I prefer Hershey's!
