Nestle has out-sourced candy bars. (So buy Hersheys!) - VANITY
Self

Posted on 08/01/2005 11:21:06 AM PDT by Slump Tester

I got a Nestle's Crunch bar at work today, and happened to read the back. It was made in Brazil. Then I grabbed a Butterfinger - It was made in Venasuala.

So how many Americans do we put out of work when we buy Nestles?

Buy a Hershey instead. The last time I heard, they were still making them in Pennsylvania!

There, now I feel better.

Not sure, but I wonder if this is because of the sugar price supports. They are making it uneconomical to use real sugar in the U.S.

"It was made in Venasuala."

Where is "Venasuala" located?

I wonder if the Swiss share your indignation.

I've got better Pennsylvania-made candy to buy:

Where do you think Nestle is from? (Hint, it is not a North American company.) If you were interested in buying American, you wouldn't even have reached for a Nestle candy.

Nestle's is a foreign-owned company to begin with.

It would be extremely foolish to make a sugar based product in a nation that does allow the free import of sugar.

It's right next to Culumbia.

I'm going to Hershey on Friday. Of course, until now I hadn't planned on getting any chocolate while I'm there. This changes everything!

Frito-Lay's Stax potato chips (think Pringles) are made in Mexico. Being HQ'd in Plano, Texas probably explains that.

Nestles is not an American company; we live in a world economy and I am glad, Americans are not the only ones that can make a decent product.

I don't need to eat the chocolate when I'm there; I'm happy just enjoying the chocolate smell that pervades downtown Hershey.

Thank you for the ping WestCoastGal.

DrJimmy, stop by Chocolate World and say hi. Just ask where the Character Photo booth is. If I'm not fixing a camera in the park, I will be there. My name tag will say GTP Corp and "Bill". Always glad to say hellow to a fellow Freeper. GTP means Get The Picture and we are a vendor. While Hershey makes great candy they know nothing about taking pictures.

Tip: If your going to the park, buy your candy at Chocolate World on the way out because of temperature control.

I am sorry to inform you that since they completed the new manufacturing plant (big blue builing on the right when approching the area) that beautiful smell is almost gone. They still make some products in the old manufacturing building but the odor is also reduced. Yes, the odor police got on the company.

Here's a secret. When you go to Chocolate World you will smell heavy duty chocolate throughout. Before opening they put a 5 pound chocolate bar in a crock pot and blow a fan over it. Shhhhh.
