Yes, Joaquin did go by Leaf a few years back but I'm not so sure that the term "hippie" would apply to the family - they're originally "Okies" (from Oklahoma). Just to give you an idea of how odd the family tree is, my friend told me that she is the product of wife-swapping (just the fact that she would be aware of this is odd in and of itself). Apparently her mom was married and her dad was married & the two couples were messing around - well, the dad's wife was 'fixed' and the mom's husband was 'fixed', so when the mom came up pregnant, they realized it was from their extramarital 'fun' and, thus, my friend was born. The couples both divorced and her mom and dad got married (and are still together 30 some years later). Although the "Phoenix" clan comes from Oregon according to Wikipedia, they are originally from Oklahoma as are my friend's parents. ((Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to imply that all who hail from Oklahoma give their kids strange names or engage in partner swapping!!!))
