The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The guys that are building the monstrous arena have fifteen or twenty acres. More than enough room to build somewhere else.

There has to be some reason they did that.... I still think they maybe hope to buy the neightbor out. How much land does he have.

...we would have bought the property as soon as it went up for sale, just to prevent this type of scenario...

There ya go! My sentiments exactly. If you don't want people building within sight of your house, you'd better make darned sure they can't.

"I don't know, instead of fighting it I might have done my best to get on their good side to have access to using it."

The neighbors fighting it get transferred from time to time because of work. Their main problem is resale value. More than likely they are going to need to sell the place at some point but who's going to buy it with arenazilla parked on top of them?

...It's suppose to be 103 tomorrow.

Jeez Louise! And I thought it was gonna be hot here tomorrow. We're supposed to be out at the trail by 7am tomorrow and are just going for a couple of hours even then. And it's only gonna be 98 here. I just can't imagine 103! The heat index would have to be at least 110. Take it easy and don't get a heat stroke, you or your horse!

He has another fifteen acres or so. I asked my husband what possible reason could they have for building it so close to the neighbor and he said probably because of city water or something like that. It's a whole lot cheaper to build where the water lines already are and these people are cutting alot of corners. Who in their right mind wants a house connected to the barn? I had a girlfriend that rented a house like that and she said the varmint problem was hugh and series and not easily controlled.

That's a good point but I'm not sure they could afford it. I'm not getting the impression that these people are rolling in dough and the mad neighbor's property is probably worth $700,000 or so.

OOOO scary post #:)

We probably won't ride more then a couple hours either. This girl is pretty soft:) always has been. She doesn't get to ride much either due to school.

I didn't hear what they are predicting for the heat index.

And it's not only the varmint problem. You'd think the dust would be atrocious, not to mention the bugs. {Or do bugs fall under the category of varmints?}

I was thinking rats being varmints but bugs and flies could be in that catagory and probably epidemic in that house. You'd have to have a fly spray system in your home.

Shee-it! For that kinda money around here you could get 700 acres of prime farmland!

You WOULD have to tell me that. I hadn't even noticed. Now I'll be scared all night! I guess I'd better sleep with my rabit's foot, although it didn't seem to bring the rabbit very much good luck. ;o)

I've never met them but I think they are young people. They've got quite a bit of money, obviously, but they are cutting some serious corners so I'm thinking bottomless pit doesn't apply here. It's all relative, I guess. Most of my neighbors are bottomless pits of money. Private helicopters, huge beautiful homes, expensive horses, etc. One nearby fella is part owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team.

Just as an FYI, I'm not in the "bottomless pit" category.

I know, the land around here is outrageous but it's because we're in the DFW metroplex. The further you get away from the Dallas Fort Worth area, the land values drop considerably.
