This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
The books by James Herriot are wonderful too. I can bet that she'd really like those!
I loved to watch that series...........Do you know I had forgotton all about those books! Thanks for the reminder, they are definatly on the top of the list. : )
Good morning
Becky
Good Morning!
Fortunately that amount was enough to get me by for now. I keep hearing that fuel is not available further South near the coast. Also hear that when a gas station has fuel that lines may be 4 hours long. Hope this gets better soon.
Good morning! I hope the fuel situation gets better soon too! : )
Hope everyone enjoys this extra day off, if you are taking it! Deaconjim likes to work these days because it pays well. : )
Heh! Frog may be in the market for my draft horses and wagon yet.........
I'm thinking it won't be long before the price of feed goes up right along with the fuel prices:(
Becky
You are right and also the price of just about everything else you can think of will go up too. You may want to consider feeding your horses something less expensive if it is available. My horses get round bales of hay, pasture to graze and shelled corn every now and then. Of course, they are not working but they get all the excersize they want or need.
Right now it is costing me about me right at $15 a week to feed one horse here at the house. The brood mare I have down on pasture is costing nothing right now. With all the rain we have had, the pasture is overflowing:), and she is as fat as I would want her.
Still I for sure would like to get her and a gelding sold before winter.
Becky
Ours are only getting pasture right now, and some feed when they need it for minerals and worming. Both are fat, and we have more lush pasture than we know what to do with. I am having to mow some! Wish I had a baler! : )
As you may already know this is not the time to sell. It is a buyer's market for now. Some people came out to look at my team and acted as though they were doing me a favor. My thought was if the price of gasoline gets much higher the price of my horses will go up too. There is no waiting in line for pasture grass..........
Good morning...
Are you advertising them yet at all?
Because of your reminder, I remembered to get a sponge. I have it all ready, and today I will see how he works with it. I'm going to desensitize him a bit to it before getting in the creek tho:)
I'll try to remember to get Celia to take a picture of us when we get in the creek, but you know how that is:).
Becky
Remember! Remember!
As soon as I get back from this ride, I'm going to get some ads in the paper. I'm going to start spreading the word at the ride.
Becky
Our baler is broke down and needs a complete rebuild. A new one will cost about 20K. We will do without for the time being and just buy good quality hay. The old farmer I have been buying my hay from is almost ninety years old but his hay is excellent quality.
Your best bet may be the have someone bail it for you. Just make sure they know what they are doing.
I wont get one now, but we will be looking into a square baler when we get the farm. Won't be a new one though! I don't mind one that may not be pretty! : )
