The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

...I wish I had a water cannon I could nail her with...

One of those motion-activated sprinklers that are made to keep deer out of gardens and dogs from doing their business in your yard might do the trick. You could aim it at the gate she bangs on. Then she wouldn't know who did it to her. I've seen them in some of my catalogs

Not changing the subject but I bought gas this morn and was limited to only 15 gal at 3 bucks a gallon. There was a limit on diesel to 50 gallons. Just thought I would let you know.

The disney movie, "Justin Morgan Had a Horse" Is very good. I don't know if there is a book.

Back when i was a kid:), (I doubt these are still in print), but there was a good series of horse books called The Timber Trail Riders. They might be a bit old for her, they are more for teens. Some boyfriend, girlfriend stuff in them. But they were good stories, mysteries. I've still got mine.

Thanks Becky, I'll see if there are any on Amazon.
She does read teenage books because that is where her level is and anything she doesnt understand she asks me and I am open and honest with her. She has just finished enjoying all of the Left Behind teenage series books. : )
Misty is a Morgan! : ) We are hoping to get out to see Lightning, Misty and the colts as soon as Deaconjim gets a day off and we dont have people picking up puppies! : ) I am SO looking forward to it. : )

It sounds like you have everything covered :) Try not to worry, write out a check list for your trailer so you don't forget something critical at the last minute - remeber a first aid kit for you and Harley both.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you both :)

Thanks. I'm really not worried just getting excited:), been along time since I've done one.

My goal is to just finish with the horse is good condition, within the time frame. If I can do that I'll be happy. I'm sure I'm going to have to get back in the groove on the observed obstacles, that's where I always had the most problems and that was because of me more then the horses:). i get stage fright:)

He has been doing excellant on the lunge work and I really don't think being there will change him.

Becky

I'm guessing that she's probably already read the Misty of Chincoteague series, but if she hasn't - she must!

That was one of the first books I read after Black Beauty many moons ago and I remember it fondly.

IIRC, there are 3 books that follow that one.

I sure hope you get a chance to take some pictures while you are there. I do expect a really good discription of the event and all the obstacles :)

It might be a good idea to get her a non fiction horse book or two as well.

She already has a few, she is reading Family Friendly Farming right now, by Joel Salatin. I had just finished it and was telling her about and she wanted to read it.
Makes me proud. : )
