This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It looks like a great picture, but I'll have to wait till Mack gets off the computer, no way was web TV going to load it:)
But even with the thumbnail size, it's amazing the difference between before and after eruption.

We took some leisurely rides and everything was going great until last night when we went riding across this huge field. At the end of the field you pick up the trail again. We started to go towards the trail head and who knows what he saw but he spooked big time. I didn't even have time to think and I was on the ground and he was gone !!! I called Mr. Estrogen on the walkie talkies and he came to my aid on the four wheeler. It was like a cartoon. We could see Waylon going back in forth in the field, mane flying, I felt like I should be singing "Born Free" then he stopped to eat some grass. I calmly walked up to him and he let me. Got back on and off we went again and he was fine.
I promised pictures of the horse, not just the cabin and I will post them as soon as I get my camera downloaded to the computer.
Sorry you had the fall, sounds like you were a very good sport about it and nothing hurt!? Thank goodness!
Looking forward to your pictures!
I hope you think it's interesting... I do :~D I love our volcano.
I bought a trail map when I was up there.... there's horse trails up there!
Oh my, the pictures in that link are incredible. I remember seeing some of them in magazines at the time, but it's been along time ago....
Do you remember it happening?
I have a cousin that lives in Washington. He was hunting somewhere that got alot of the ash falling. He said it was really scary, that at first he heard reports that the ash might possibly be toxic.
Becky
LOL....I'm glad you were't hurt.
Born free....good one:)
Becky
Oh, I think it is very interesting. I'm not sure I'd want to live close to it:), but it's interesting to see the pictures.
Actually I wouldn't mind see it for real, but not when it's was smoking:), I think that would freak me out.

Soon after, my mom chartered a little plane and we flew down over it. All the blown-down toothpick trees were still there, all in lines following the wind direction of the blast.
Just for scale of these old growth trees.... there are two guys standing in the lower right hand corner of that picture... about an inch from the bottom.
Estrogen, I'll have to catch your pictures in the morning. I've got to go to bed. The farrier is coming bright and early in the morning, and I'm beat. Stayed up to late last night playing that stupid game.
Talk to you all tomorrow.
Becky
Wow. Those are some big trees. Kind of sad and scary.
Becky
Looking forward to the pictures. You paint a vivid picture there :)
Great pictures. Is she still speaking to you after being made to get on a horse? :)
Heh - yes she is, but I do think she felt used :~D
"But everybody on the Hobbit Hole thread would love to see you on a horse!"
Good morning.
Becky
Hi Sharn!
I'm way behind on the thread here, but which way did you go to get from Birmingham to Memphis? If you went up Hwy 157 from Cullman to hit Hwy 72 in Muscle Shoals, you passed within about 2 miles of my house.
I have been trying to post my pictures and all I get is the white square with the red cross in it. I followed the instructions on the who's who page.
Hi...I don't see a JPG in your properties. I tried to post it too. Sorry to hear about your fall. Are you sore?
Estrogen is having a problem posting her pictures. I checked her properties and tried, but got the same thing. There is not any JPG. I can't remember if it shows up on Snapfish or not.
I don't think you've copied the whole URL... they are very long.
Right click the pic and click "select all" and then "copy". It's easier than trying to highlight it all.
And good morning everyone!
