This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Operating gates is a challenge, depending especially on how he's got them latched.
Was getting ready to go out and mow again. :~D
I'd start looking right now. I think it would be better to have another one to bond with slowly then be a have to situation.
I don't care where I'm at in a pack anymore. I use to like the back too:). Felt more secure. That is one of the first things I test a new horse on, is how silly they get when they get left behind, and then work on it as needed.
Becky
Well, I'm heading down to Kristy's. She has to go to the doctor so I'm watching JP this afternoon.
Becky
You're right, if I had more room and money :~D
LOL! Yep, I agree. I know we've had this discussion before, but I've seen TrailerTrash living in some previously nice homes.
All I can say is, let's hope that they just had to move in such a hurry that they just didn't have time to properly store their stuff and will clean it up as time permits. ;o)
Hmmmmmm, they've probably got an open pipe running under the fence to your place. ;o)
They fill up fast. We have to empty at least the grey water every week when we use the camper. It has to be going somewhere.
hehehehehe...
Sorry, Hair. I just had to laugh!
Yes they did. They found a nice trailer on 10 acres, perfect for their horse and dogs! They have just got back from Texas! : )
Good:')
Oh Hair!~ That pic shows that the site isnt quite so temporary any more! : ( I would ask the owner of the shop what is being down with the used waste. You dont want it contaminating your pastures.
It is way too hot to mow here till evening. I only have about 2 hours left to do, so will probably get to it tonight unless we have a thunderstorm move in.
Mark the new owner of Lightning and the girls, says they are all doing just great. He has had Lightning wide open and says He MOVES! He is ver very FAST! Well we have seen him in action without a saddle but this was done on purpose with him riding him and he was thrilled with Lightning~ I am just so glad that they are getting the attention they deserve. : ) We have more time for ours, did the fly treatment today, and will hopefully get more pics soon. Trouble is that being inexperienced, i dont feel safe toting a camera and riding just yet! : )
Yes it is. It's a skill I've never taken the time to master, but I think it's a valuable skill to have in your horse's bag of tricks. I've often wanted to enter the Trail Obstacle classes in the local horse shows and one of the obstacles is almost always negotiating a gate, with the goal being that your hand doesn't leave the gate from the point that you start to open it to the point that you close it back. One of these days when I have my own arena, I'm going to work on stuff like that. It'd be fun.
Oh, and the kind of gates I hate the worst are the ones that drag. No matter how they're latched, you just can't get those open from horseback.
That's great! That's my goal with every foal that I raise. I want to give them every opportunity to grow up to be the kind of horse that anybody would be thrilled to have. Sounds like you've accomplished just that with yours. Good Job!
What else ~can~ we do? At least the house doesn't face it.... we can pretty much close all the blinds on that side and avoid lookin' at it. It's just that the yard used to feel kind of secluded when we were out there... and now there's a big eyesore and a guy yellin' at his dog all the time.
Latest thought is lattice... and english ivy, but it won't grow fast enough :~\
How about one set of Latice with the area where you want the most privacy, double screened with an extra panel or two? That way, even though your plant wont mature quick enough, you can afford some privacy. Someone way back, did suggest the BUSH poster. You could put that on the back! So they get that wonderful poster to look at, if they are liberals, it might just do the trick! : )
If all else fails..........bag pipes played very badly! : )
Whoa! They've expanded!
Hi all - back from town, we had lunch, bought hay, show sheen and some other odds and ends, and picked up our horse blankets from the wash and repair lady.
She's really a good deal, charging only $8 per blanket to wash them, and only a few dollars per repair to fix rips, re-sew loose straps, and she does good work.
