This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
LOL I did too! OOps guess this is my punishment! LOL
I wonder why it happens though? Is it just because we become more responsible (cough, splutter, choke!), or more aware of the dangers?
Yes, they are expensive and that is why I do not have one yet. And wouldn't you know it, a relative found a used one at a farm auction. He bought it for $250 dollars. Argh!
Why am I never at those auctions?
I've found that even with lots of horses, you still need a bushhog because the horses eat everything but the weeds and the grass in the "toilet areas" so they need to be mowed even more or the weeds will completely take over.
Well thats where goats come in handy! Unfortunatly our one goat is just nowhere near enough!
Aslo we used to have a lot of free-range chikens that spread the manure around, limiting the problem!
Well, I am certainly not more responsible so it must be because I am more aware of the dangers...........
I think! : )
Well i need to get some stuff done before deaconjim gets home, so I'm calling it a night!
G'night all, sweet dreams!
The auctions I attend, the prices are always much higher than if you went to a retail store and bought it new...... Argh!
Good Night Rose!
I have to wash some ripe figs. Hope to make fig preserves tomorrow night.
I was 1st in line. They would have probably pushed it in the water. I was so mad though I just left it on the side of the road and never rode in it again.
You are very correct about the weeds in the toilet areas. Sometimes I run a disc over them to cut them up even more.
The water would have put out the fire........... : )
LOL!! Yeah, and he's gonna remind you about it every time he sees you, just so you'll be jealous. It's what relatives are for. ;o)
Oh, and if I DO happen up on a deal like that, when I get it home, it turns out to be held together with spit and baling wire.
See the difference from yesterday? She is most put out and won't even look at Sarah Lee who had nothing to do with her getting kicked.
Manana
This one needs new gears in the gear boxes. Even then the repairs will be a lot less that the cost of a new mower.
Not that many auctions anymore as the price of scrap metal went up, old farm equipment was cut up and hauled off.
She is a cutie and needs her own horse!
Cindydawg?
Guilt by association...She's a HORSE, therefore she's the one that did the kicking. You know what they say about "close enough for horse shoes and hand grenades", well this time the horse shoes were on the horse and they were as close as Cindydawg wanted them and it didn't matter which horse either. ;o)
