This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Eh - quit compaining... you wanted rustic right? LOL
[ducking]
~sip~
SLAP! LOL um, they were advertised as luxury cabins! LOL I MUST take some pics before we move tommorow! : ) Rustic, is um a good way to describe it!
Oh well..............
We are out aand about now and on our way north into Missouri to see what can find. The scenery is beautiful! Very green, very hilly and lots of winding roads, which means i cant do this much as i will chuck!
You needed that info....right?
Back from the trails!
It didn't take near as long as we thought it would to get to the ranch. Just about 35 minutes. We spent the extra time petting the horses and getting tips from the girls there.
Rebecca and I had so much fun. We can't wait to go back!
Needless to say, Rebecca did a LOT better than I did. She looked so comfortable up there, I was envious of her grace.
Pics uploading now.
When we first got there, Rebecca really took to Chief.
We rode out of there and towards the trail.
We entered the nice, shady trail. It was a relief because it was hot today!
I took this pic for Hair. :-D
Here we are, still in one-piece, when we got back.
Rebecca rode Mocha (arabian?) and I was on Katy (I'm guessing a QH).
We're tired and hungry, but had a great time. My legs and butt are sore from when Katy started to trot and I, of course, have ~no~ idea how to hang on. So I bounced quite a bit! LOL!
Rebecca didn't bounce at all. She looked just gorgeous up there.
I am sorry the little girl was hurt. But, she should have been taught not to "jerk" her horse (especially with a curb bit) and not to take her anger/disappointment out on the horse. The best part of understanding the horse is that the horse will quickly show you the cause and effect of abuse.
Great pics Ruthy! Glad you had a couple of nice trusty mounts and a nice ride.
How long were you out? Did the leader give a lot of instructions or just lead you out and let the horses follow along?
We had a 15 minute crash course.
The instructor taught us the "smile, squeeze, smooch, spank" method of getting the horse to move. He also taught us how to get the horse to stop and how to handle certain behaviors.
Rebecca's mare (Mocha) was just lovely and picked up on the cues from the smile and squeeze alone.
My mare (Katy) was a bit lazy (the trail leader's words, not mine). I had to smile, squeeze and smooch to get her to trot. She wanted to lag way back and take her time. I also got the feeling that she was not a fan of other horses.
Even in the pic of me and Becky, you can see her ears pinned back a bit just because Mocha was too close.
But Katy was a real trooper, dealing with a novice on her back. Other than the occassional attempt to nip the other horses rears, my only complaint was her "stop and eat and catch up later" attitude.
Did teach me a bit about being firm with a horse. I learned to steer her away from the other horses and by the time we got back to the ranch, I was feeling much more confident in my ability to control her.
We were out a full hour and a half. I've got bruises to prove it (from the canter the trail leader insisted I try).

I'm sorry you had such a rotten evening. I'd speak to the organization too, after paying for the arena, to be locked out twice is very poor business at the very least.
Great pictures. I'm glad you had a good time:). Rebecca does look like she sits very good in the saddle. But then kids always seem too:)
Becky
Oh boy, definately not Holiday Inn. Hope the new cabin is a whole lot better.
I'm so glad you both had a great time. You look great up on the horses, Rebecca looks like she had a ball.
Great picture. How is your brother doing now?
Thanks.... He was released today and is home :~D
Very much better.
Good morning.
Farrier coming today at noon. I'm getting all three shod, and I'm very excited that they are all going to be on the same schedule, and I'll only have to remember one farrier appointment at a time:)
Becky
That paint horse in post #18, getting his shoe reset, is gorgeous! Is his name Hidalgo? LOL.

I'm going to call them today. Hopefully we can figure something out where I don't have to even mess with the caretaker.
I have all my critters on the same schedule, vet and farrier. My new kittens get their second set of shots today.
Mornin'.
I shoulda brought a pillow to sit on here at work. LOL!
LOL.
I was thinking while reading your post that whoever was working with you moved you along pretty fast. Trotting and loping already. If you haven't rode before and you did all that I'm sure you are sore:). It's amazing how many muscles you use just sitting on a horse. Muscles you never knew you had:).
