The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

it was a doctor that told deaconjim about the injuries.....i guess being in the medical field they have seen them too. if they didnt tell u that he couldnt play on the trampoline then they had no right to attack you!
It sounds to me like she isnt thinking about consequences of what she IS letting him do....i think they are dangerous!

I have people tell me that having a swimming pool is dangerous. We have a fenced deck around ours, with a gate, the kids dont go there unless we say they can. No argument, and we havent had one.....yet we had some people over with a 3 year old, who Climbed OVER the fence and her parents just stood watching without saying/doing anything! Deaconjim and I got that child back down onto the yard and told her off.....whilst the parents just stood there. I dint care if i upset them. I was thinking about this child who couldnt swim, not their feelings.

Yes, I do. Usually every October to ride with my cousin and friends.

We do some hard trails, as well as just jogging around.

Will post more trail-riding pics later.

I forgot whether y'all have horses? I should go back and look at earlier posts.

"Boy! Are you ever a personal injury lawyer's idea of heaven! ;o)"

You're right and I've always told anyone that wants to ride here that they have to sign a release. Guess with a trampoline around they'll have to sign one for that, too.

What a crazy world we live in.

Yes we do, though I am a very green beginner! We did have 6 but are down to 2.
Who knows, if everything goes well, we'll invite you to see our little piece of Heaven! We might go back around October/November.

It's settled down quite a bit.... they're letting her approach closer, and she's more confident that they can't reach her anyway. She doesn't run away anymore if they lunge at her. Bay is doing 'get-between' behavior to keep the mares away.

I dint care if i upset them. I was thinking about this child who couldnt swim, not their feelings.
I remember when I was a teenager I was over a parent's friend's house swimming. They had an inground pool, and there was another set of parents there with a two year old who kept trying to jump in the pool. Her parent's were just sitting there while I kept trying to keep her out. Finally she started to SCREAM, and the parents ripped me apart and told me not touch their daughter. Luckily my father came to my rescue, and after that they left.

You're right, we haven't pared you down to two.... we still have all the others up there.... you want us to? Or should we keep them up there because they come up in conversation?

Have you heard lately how they're doing?

Very good idea! Sad that it's necessary, but good on your part. I'd never really thought about that before.

Kids joyriding in cars and riding bikes alone in neighborhoods scares me a heck of alot more than a trampoline. Kid getting hurt on a trampoline, that's a risk I'm willing to take, kid riding a bike alone and disappearing, not taking that chance. Not by a long shot. The Amber alert was named after a little girl, Amber Hagerman, that disappeard very near where we lived at the time. I haven't been able to drive down that street since. I heard a cop say that you don't ever want to know what-all happened to that little girl, the injuries found on her. Even the most seasoned cops had trouble dealing with it.

Sharn, you're right about people letting their kids run up to stray dogs to pet them. Anybody want their kids to have rabies shots?
