But why don't the DUers who continue to defend him not see this obvious crap?

Because in their twisted little world the collective trumps the truth. PJ's nailed it with his ant farm analogy...DU is a perfect microcosm of the democratic-socialist world and a warning for anyone who thinks the world would be a better place if they were in power. In the larger world you have their attempts to rationalize away the greed and incompetence on display at their precious UN in the Oil for Food scandal and attempting to bury what they can't make excuses for that will be believed by the kool-aid drinkers (they don't even bother with us anymore the shrill rants they spew daily are to keep the sheep in the fold)...on DU the same thing is going on with Andyscam. If excuse 1, 2 or 3 doesn't work, it's delete, delete, delete. Meanwhile, they slather on and pat each other on the back about how wonderful they are for coming together...no one can take away the great things their commiunity did, how powerful they are when they're united, even if "some things could have been done a little better". Except little bits of the truth keep seeping out here and there and pretty soon there aren't enough fingers to plug the holes and the only way to maintain control is a dictatorship that cuts off communication with the "others".

These are the people Orwell warned us about...unfortunately for Will Pitt it looks like he landed the role of Old Major and poor Bev has to be Snowball.

"No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?" (Chapter 5)

"If she herself had had any picture of the future, it had been of a society of animals set free from hunger and the whip, all equal, each working according to his capacity, the strong protecting the weak... Instead - she did not know why - they had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes." (chapter 7)

I caught a portion of a tv show last night that the premise was exposeing lies by 'groups'. They took on the 'environmentalists' and were debunking all of their claims of global warming. At one point the 'greens' had some sort of 'earth day' in Washington that focused on logging. The people doing the debunking had a petition to ban 'Oxygen dihydride' with the lady explaining that it was used in all sorts of poisons etc etc. They collected hundreds of signatures and the idiots who signed the petition never knew that they were for banning H2O, water. Same thing, herd mentatality. They explained it as a 'group join' type of thing.

Excellent! Been a long time since I read Animal Farm. Have been trying to get my niece to read it. She is only 10, but I am quite sure she can grasp the overall meaning of the pigs taking over and turning into the tyrants. She is extremely bright and is an avid supporter of George W and our Troops.

9/11 affected her a lot more than a youngster her age should have been. She already uses a phrase she picked up from me..... "Hmpf! Must be a Democrat!" A regular chip off the 'ol block......LOL

She has been reading since she was 4, and I am proud to say I had a lot to do with it. I was lying around waiting for workman's comp to realize I actually had an on the job injury to my back, and we spent many hours reading everything she was interested in. She showed an amazing interest in computer jargon too. I am confident we will have no worries as long as our children grow up like her. She is the apple of my eye.
