Also, you're not supposed to let these chickens roost, because they'll hurt themselves if they fall off, having no capacity to break their fall with their wings. Still, they have the desire to roost, so I made them a tiny little roost a mere half inch off the floor of the tote...they love it.
Also, I raised their feeder up so they have to stand up to eat. Otherwise, they'll just lay down and eat!
Think I'll put them outside in that little cooplet I made...with the net cover and open to grass on the bottom. I did it yesterday and they did quite a bit of scratching around at insects and nipping the tops off blades of grass.
It should be an interesting experiment and will answer many questions I have...
Can I raise them to fryer weight?
Can I butcher them?
Will the meat taste better than store-bought as a result of my efforts?
