Well, this was probably 15 years ago, that I played. I was awful. Played with a bunch of profs from the Biology department at University of Texas. They were friends of Steve's...
I was really really awful, but I had the time of my life. I'd never done anything like that before.
I once spun out on home base after getting what shoulda been a run to first base...spun out and landed flat on my face. Started laughing and couldn't get up to complete the run.

Oh, I know it Bear.
The problem as I see it is that most folks associate the story with the Wilder movie. A friendly, albeit disturbing, place with lessons to be learned.
This Burton version may be closer in the literary sense, but what's the target audience?

mmmm instant ramenDude, have you looked at the nutrition label on a pack of ramen? If you're trying to lose weight, that's the absolute wrong stuff to eat...

With all I did today I could eat a cow and lose some... ok not really but I feel like it. It can't be any worse than the usual fast food.
To: RMDupree; Bear_in_RoseBear
I would agree that the story was originally somewhat darker, but the original movie was such a great thing... it just doesn't need a re-interpretation.
I like Tim Burton, though he's a little on the dark side.
But Depp? Aw, man... no way.
To: 2Jedismom
Me too, sis.
I had folks laughing at work today when I walked around with my cheeks sucked in and making scissor motions with my hands.
This was, of course, in response to someone's comment on what a fine actor Depp is.
I just walked around the corner right up behind this individual so his audience saw me first. ;-D

Yeah, but I don't think that makes up a large slice of the population. *grin*

Next time you go to the store, pick up some Campbell's Chunky Soup varieties... it's as quick as ramen but fewer carbs, calories, and sodium.

I thought the rooster getting it's head chopped off when they were in the boat was scary enough! LOL!

I don't remember the book as being dark.... I read it as a little kid.
I'm beat... going to bed :~D
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
He was an excellent pirate.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Er... got some of it... reached right pasted it to get that ramen out. I did think for a second that it might taste better but I was feeling lazy.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
I did.
But I don't feel like he was the only actor suited for the role. Viggo could have pulled it off too, doncha think? wink*
I'd rather of seen someone a bit older play that part for some reason.
