The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ugh...yeah, I've run into that on a couple of the jobs I've applied for. As if what I made in the past in a completely different geographic area and for a coupletely different industry has any bearing on what the usual salary should be here.

The web form for one place I applied made that a REQUIRED field. That's just wrong, in my opinion!

LOL! So true!

They want to know what you've been making even before telling you what they are willing to pay.

Why? So they can low-ball you from the get-go? Puhleeeze!

I know it, sis.

As much as I can't wait to move, just the thought of packing up all of the frap I've accumulated is daunting.

Heh...when I was getting ready to sell the house, I had to finally sort through the boxes in the basement I still hadn't unpacked.

Sad!

Sometimes they ask you what salary range you're looking for. I always want to answer "how much money have you got?" :)

Heh!!

The whole situation is a bit overwhelming...I almost feel like Steve going to school was the EASY part!

Neither one of us has any idea how one goes about job hunting nowadays!

I've got a couple of boxes like that in the garage.

But I'm afraid to go through them!

Roaches are prolly hiding in there. *shudder*

Heh. Act like Flylady on steroids. Start by decluttering and cleaning, and maybe move on to painting.

LOL! I would ~love~ to see the look on a potential employer's face if someone said that!

They worst I had to deal with was mildew...and spiders.

Bad enough, though. Ugh.

I'd give ya advice, but I don't seem to be that hot at it.

Ugh! Nasty Shelobses!

What I'll have to do is drag the boxes out onto the driveway in the hot sun.

Let 'em sit for about an hour, occasionally whacking the sides with a broom handle.

I would, of course, be seated safely on the hood of my car while I do this. *grin*

I really hate job hunting. But just once I'd like to go on an interview (for a job I don't need) and be the interviewee from Hell. "So. I hear that the average employee stays with your company for only a year. Why do you suck so bad?"

Steve's 43 years old...he's gonna have to really make himself look good, experienced. He really needs to re-do his entire resume.

It's all really frightening to me...We know what we want, just don't know how to get there!
