The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

My topic is that I was just about to head out into the back forty with the weed-wacker and now it's raining.
I try hard not to curse any rain in June.

Okay, I looked at the foot again and made myself paranoid enough that I've got a 3:00 p.m. doctor's appointment.
To: Corin Stormhands
That's a good dwarf... I think you prolly should.
To: HairOfTheDog
Yeah, I'll prolly feel silly. But better safe than sorry. And I can't google up another explanation.
Thank goodness the Internet wasn't around when I had the cancer. I'd have gone crazy looking up "solutions."
I'll report in later. ;-)

Okay...to bring this back around to the thread topic... LOL! Okay, now I get it. You had me very puzzled, studing my ping list and trying to figure out the joke.
Never mind!

I know, but it will be lots of sprouts, each weaker than the mother tree, which didn't last that long anyway. I don't want a redbud shrub, and we still have one redbud left (until our neighbor's lousy silver maple takes it out).

I was thinkin' more along the lines of the Ma Deuce...

about a dozen woulduh been sufficent...

Heh.... we get a little defiant when we feel like we're bein' told what to do ;~D
Hobbits are tough in a pinch, but they hate being put in pinches.
If you haven't noticed, this is like our virtual pub, and the topic is whatever comes up ;~D
To: RosieCotton
We've discussed on a few occasions how much faster things could have been if the whole mission...quest...thing...had happened in modern times. The 82nd Airborne deploys Frodo and Sam on a HALO drop over Mount Doom. The two steer their chutes directly to the entrance to the Sammath Naur, cut free, dash into the tunnel and drop the ring, then run back out and radio for extraction.
Whole operation takes five minutes from the time the eagles...er, sorry, C-130...appears over the drop site. Of course, Sam has secret orders: In the event that Frodo won't willingly drop the ring into the Cracks of Doom, Sam is to terminate him immediately with his issue M9 and drop the body into the lava, ring and all.

Okay :~D
Well shower passed... I'm gonna go look at the bracken situation.
To: Oberon
I would go with the Barrett to if you are shooting for man portable. If you are going for more realistic, ballasta! In reality charging and unsupported medium/heavy cavalry into a horde that size would only lose the cavalry, unless the horde is put to flight, which in this case it was. If their will had not broken Rohan would have been without a cavalry pretty fast. As for the big beasties, the Gondorians should have dug pits and trenches and stationed more ballastas on the walls. Greek fire out of the trebuchets might have been effective to spook them also.
To: Oberon
BAH! Mount the ring on a GPS guided deep penetrator bomb and forget the tricksy hobbitses
To: Overtaxed
Fire seemed to put them down for a bit. Issue flame throwers.
To: Oberon
Heh heh! It's been kinda fun having our official topic brought up again!
