The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Okay, so I haven't said much about this (I think I mentioned it the other night). I think I was bitten by a spider on the bottom of my big toe about a week ago. Got a weird hole on the bottom of the foot. That's actually healing but my toe is still red, sore and a bit swollen.

I googled spider bite pictures and amazingly got to this thread:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1321283/posts

It doesn't look as severe as that guy, but it's the same type of wound.

I don't think we have brown recluse in the area. But I'm thinking something crawled into the shoes I leave in the garage (and only wear to work in the yard).

I have no other symptoms. And it's been at least a week, if not longer. I ain't dead yet.

Think I need to get it checked out?

I'm having a hard time picturing how you could have something like that on your toe!

I hate to ask for it, but can you take a picture of it?

I'd say if there's no reason not to, it doesn't hurt to have it checked out if it doesn't seem to be getting better.

I could take a picture tonight. Like I said the wound is healing. I'm just a little puzzled by the redness and soreness.

The chicken breasts look good and have no bad oder.

What do you think?

The polish sausages smell just fine too.

And, I should say, it's never looked as bad as that.

Seems like more than just your average spider bite.

In your searching, did you see that there is any particular Rx for treating it if it is a Brown Recluse, or does it just have to run it's course anyway?

Heh. If it were just me, I'd eat 'em. But then food has to go a ways before it makes me sick.

The guy who posted the thread said that all they could do was give an antibiotic.

I do think you should...when did you get your last Tetanus shot? Even if it's not a recluse, if it's been over 5 years, you should probably get a Tetanus booster. And some antibiotics.

Well, of everything we took out, these two items were the ones I felt the best about...and the cookie dough and the fish. I'm still not sure of the fish...

Okay, it looks more like this:

And I found this...

Brown Spiders

There are two types of brown spiders or brown recluse spiders in Arizona. They often are called violin spiders because of the characteristic "violin-shaped" marking on the upper back. They are generally brown but can range in color from yellow to dark brown. They are timid with webs in dry undisturbed areas. The Arizona species is not the same as the brown recluse spider in the Midwest.

The bite of the brown spider is a serious medical condition. The bite is nonhealing and causes tissue death. Sometimes surgery is necessary. The bite causes only a mild stinging sensation if any at all. Victims often are unaware they have been bitten. Several hours after the bite, the following signs and symptoms begin to result:

A small white area appears surrounded by a margin of redness which may produce a mild itching pain.

A blister appears surrounded by mild swelling and redness.

A "bulls-eye" or "target" lesion develops

There may be fever, chills, rash, hives, nausea and pain in the joints over the next few days.

The target lesion will enlarge over the next few days and produce extensive tissue death. There is no antivenom. The lesion will have to be soaked in antispetic and possibly antibiotics. Surgery may be necessary to cut out the dead tissue.

I know it's from Arizona, but that sorta describes it...

Called. No news yet. But I guess no news is good news.

I applied a coupla other places over the last few days, though, just in case. And not strictly tech jobs. Even made it all the way through the hospitals on-line application process for the first time. Ugh! That is a doozy! I gotta wonder how many folks actually make it all the way through...it'd likely be a lot easier to just apply in person.

But I be stubborn on occasion.

I know I still have a good chance at the job I want...it's just hard being patient, and having all my eggs in one basket makes me really nervous.

My brother had a bite like that earlier this year. Scared me badly, but no one else seemed concerned.

It went away, but it took forever, seemed like. And it was red and purple and a bit warm to the touch. Just hideous.
