The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Hey Rosie...
Who built the ships that carried the Elves westward from the Grey Havens?

I have wayyyy too many. Even after moving across country.
Don't have another question. Must think, I guess.

From what I understand it was a "bridge burner." ;-)
I did what I could.
No oath nor bond was laid to go further than I did.

Well, Elrond gave good advice there.
I should be out working in the back forty, but I am just draggin' tired today... Not just lazy, sleepy!

Cirdan the Shipwright?
What were the common tongue and elvish names of the plant Aragorn used on the wound the Witch King gave Frodo at Weather Top?

I'm surprised I can even keep my eyes open. I got home and ll:00 and me and the Mrs. spent another two or more hours searching for vacation options.
It's such a pain. We have a reservation for a house near where we usually go, but it's more than twice what we normally pay. I just don't feel comfortable with that. But we haven't found another option that we really like.

Yes, Cirdan.
What were the common tongue and elvish names of the plant Aragorn used on the wound the Witch King gave Frodo at Weather Top?
Athelas, or kingsfoil. I don't remember the Quenya name.
What was it that Pippin provided for Gimli at Isengard, which left Gimli "...deeply in [his] debt"?

Wrong? Good then I don't have to think one up. Not sure I can come up with a hard one that I know the answer to.

Wrong? Good then I don't have to think one up. Having the correct answer was never a condition. You're supposed to have a question whenever you offer an answer. =]
To clarify, Pippin had a small, non-consumable item which he carried on his person, and lent to Gimli for the dwarf's use at Isengard (and, presumably, after). It was a spare.
What was it?

Rosie...
Can you give the names (either in Elvish or common) of three Ents?

Mmmm...a question...let me think.
Who were the final bearers of The Three Rings of the Elves, and what were their names?

Um...I phrased that badly. The second half of the question refers to the names of the rings.

Quickbeam, Treebeard (of course), and...um....hmm...coming up short. You could say Finglas, Fladrif, and Fangorn, or to your other names you could add Fimbrethil (Wandlimb), or Beechbone.

Narya, Nenya, and Vilya. They were worn by Elrond, Galadriel, and Gandalf.
Who bore the last of the Dwarves' rings that remained in the hands of the dwarves?

Well, it's time to go again. This time to Fredericksburg. Only an hour if the traffic behaves.

I think I should get off the road...

What were Mary and Pip up to when they joined the fellowship and who were they doing it to.
