Yeah. I'm excited. We bought mats today. We couldn't figure if the smooth or rough side went up so we put the rough side up so they would have more traction. Is that right? I also bought feed buckets. We are going to get a water tub when we get there so we don't have to haul it. I'm buying some feed here and once I get a vet there I'll see if the protein needs to be as high or they need as much. Boots coming. So much still to do. I have to get tags tomorrow and.....:')
I think this was probably Cyn's first exposure to trotting poles. She acted like it anyhow. Here she has proposed the idea of simply saying 'no' to it. ;~D
The first several times she did jump it, or go around... Some goofs we got on film, some we didn't, and I hope to show examples of both good efforts and goofs. This was a nice early effort with one pole.
Here, we've added a couple more, and she's getting through them.
Here she relapsed and jumped the first pole.
Here's a nice effort... We're playing around with the spacing, here they are a little closer together. I'm probably not scientific enough about the spacing of the poles, I tend towards trial and error.
We've added one more, and she's gotten herself a little behind here. She's gonna have to stretch to make the last pole.
Here they are much closer together. Too short, probably, but as you can see, once they 'get' what they're supposed to do, they'll try to compensate their stride to match the poles.
Just a couple more pics to show that we worked her in both directions... and that the first time around from the opposite side, she relapsed and made a mess of them.
But that's OK - she figured it out and we ended after she was working nicely again.
We worked Bay on them too, not as long and we didn't take as many pics, but I'll post them also in a bit.
Here he's being a better citizen.
Just one more, a picture of Bay doing a pretty effort on three.
That's it for now.... I hope I haven't already overloaded the dial up folks with too many pics!
Comments? discuss!
Yes, you need to make sure they have traction in the trailer and since it's a stock trailer I think, I don't think you can put shavings in it. They would blow out in the wind.
Since they are both adult horses and not working right now, they won't need the protein that a young horse or a hard working horse would need.
