This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
My husband broke his stallion, now his gelding to drive first. He used long reins in the round pen, then a drag out on the trail before he switched to the cart. Then he broke him to saddle. He's pretty much bomb proof now.
The other thing I noticed about them both is that they are wider between the eyes than most other horses I've seen and have a slight Roman nose.
What I'm hoping is that I can work 12 hour shifts and be off 4 days a week. I'm working on it.
I didn't know that was also a breed feature ;~D
I think her eyes are fine. My other BIL is a professional clown and he's been talking awhile about getting a pony and teaching her tricks. Not for riding but for part of his show.
I noticed the big eye thing on this mare too.
Huh. All my post didn't copy. It was supposed be "I think her eyes are fine. They make her, her."
Remember when I had the idea to teach her to bow?
She has a long way to go....
I remember but you know, I kind of like Pony's bow a lot more:')
She might've done if eventually, if I'd have stuck with it. Really, if someone stuck with anything with her, she'd eventually be good. She tries really hard to be good, she just stresses out.
I wouldn't go so far to say there are no snakes. In The UK and Ireland there are not vey many snakes. Snakes do not seem to like our climate over much. We do have one poisonous snake and that is called the Adder. We have a lot of slow worms which are disgusting. I am not sure whether they are the same as your grass snakes or not. All I know is they are not nice.
One thing we do have is a lot fo birds of prey, Kestrels and the like. Also cats are used widely for rodent control..: )
I am sorry to hear that, we had a dog that ONCE killed a chicken. Deaconjim tied the said chicken round the dogs neck for a week. He had to drag that thing whever he went and even to bed at night. Learnt a lesson though, never ever touched a chicken again! : )
That was supposed to read I CAN'T believe I am posting this! LOL Also I lost the "e" of those. I have a 3 year old helping me at the moment! : D
Not stupid.... Labrador! she's a bird dog. Now, if you saw her ~herding~ a chicken, I'd say she was confused, as it is, I'm afraid she's got it right ;~D
The girls and I just got back from the grocery store. I think I have everything in the RV except the fridge food. The one in the RV is not cold enough yet, that will be a morning chore. Tonight after supper I'll load the microwave, coffee pot and grill
Kristy took Harley home with her. I'm going down there later. The trailer we are using has a ramp:(. He's never loaded with a ramp, want to make sure he will do it so we don't have to fight tomorrow. So I won't have to worry about forgetting my horse:) He's already down there.
Becky
I've never had them overly balk at loading with a ramp... it's just a little weirder for them backing out.
None at all ;~D
