*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I finally got to get back to y'all. I was having a tough time doing it at work. I've got trail pictures but not many. Bluebell did fine for a horse that hasn't been ridden in 6 yrs, but she definately took two hands to "steer" and was all over the trail even then. We had a bad start when she tried to kick the trailer door down when I tried to load Blade in the trailer next to her. Poor Blade didn't know what to do. Here I was on one side telling him to get in and Bluebell is on the other telling him that if he doesn't backoff she's gonna kick his lights out. I had to pop her on the butt with the lead and tell her to quit it. My BIL also gave her a little feed to distract her and she calmed down. I guess she remembered that the last time another horse came up from behind like that she got 'poked' and wanted no part of that again. ;o) Then Blade didn't want to get in with that "crazy mare" but finally did. He sure was hugging the outside wall though. Poor boy. Then I drove over 2 and a half hours and met my friend Carolyn and her husband Gary at a Cracker Barrel parking lot so I could follow them the last few miles. Well, their truck wouldn't start when we got ready to go. They'd been having starter problems for a while and it finally died...on a Sunday morning. Gary told us to go on and he'd try to get somebody to replace it. So we left him, the truck and horse trailer with his horse on it, sitting there next to a cattle hauler full of mooing cows. The poor horse was freaking out over all the Mooing. We did find an Auto Zone on our way out, stopped and bought the part and took it back to the truck, but the hard part was trying to get a mechanic on a Sunday morning. The Auto Zone guy called a 24-hr wrecker/mechanic service he knew and somebody was supposed to come put the starter on but said he'd have to find the mechanic. We went on and rode and he was going to catch up to us when the truck was fixed. Long story short, the mechanic finally came and fixed the truck and Gary caught up to us right after we got back to the trailer at the end of the ride. Oh yeah, we got lost on the trail too, so we rode longer than we intended, but hey, a bad day on the trail is better than a good day at the office. Sorry for writing a book, but this was the short version. ;o) So now, the pictures such as they are...

Me & Bluebell...

An overlook at the river. Boy, this place was high! And apparently kids jump off of this place into the water. Not this ol' gal though!!...

The End of the Day. Driving back across the Tennessee River at Decatur, AL...

How's your finger? Did you ever get Waylon back to that hill?

Finger is still a little sore, but nothing earthshattering. The next day we went back to the same hill and he was fine. I did what was suggested and sidewalked him down. We went back to same hill every day and no problems.

Fabulous pics! Now ~that's~ a river!

Nightmare start to the day though, truck problems with a horse on board would probably drive me into hysterics. I don't even want to think about it!

Is she interested in Blade?

Wow. It's so pretty. All of those hills and trees. Do those panels hold up good? I'm thinking about buying one each time I get paid and extending as I can. They were 98 dollars a panel at TSC. Is that a good price?

Great pictures! I love the cabin and your husband sure did a nice job on the yard. The trailhead looks inviting but you gotta get us some pics while you're out on it sometime.

{we don't want much, do we?} ;o)

I just got back from the stables. Darn horses. They keep me on my toes. Okie usually loves his worm med. Today he wanted to look at stars. He dances when he gets a shot. Today he just stood there. I'm expecting Sarah Lee to throw a fit about her wormer and she just opened up. I expected her to stand still for her shot and she wanted to dance.
Funny thing is that they watched each other the whole time. I mean everything.

Is she interested in Blade?

Yeah, she borrowed the money and is going to take him next weekend. We're going to meet up again at Bankhead Forest and ride and she'll take him home with her. He did everything she asked him to do and she said his roughest gait was better than her crazy mare's smoothest, so she loved him. He loves everybody, so they hit it off really well. I'm glad, but I'll miss him. I'll either have to ride Bluebell until Bob gets trained, or bring Tennessee out of retirement. Not sure which I'll do at the moment. Bluebell need LOTS of work and Tennessee is so fat and out of shape that it's unreal, so my horse riding is fixing to get interesting.

We have the same panels, and yes they do hold up good! We can safely keep a horse in there when needed and we used it for training. : ) Not sure of the price you said, sounds a little high, we had to shop around and i am sure there was as much as $20 difference per panel in prices, but I just cannot for the life of me remember the final price!
Oh and congrats on your vet clearing the horses! : )

Yes, it will, and I'll probably squall! I raised him from a 3mth old and he sure is a sweetie. But if he's not with me, I can't think of a better person to have him, other than maybe the "Cav-ster".

OK, now I see it. That's a hoot! A rooster getting broody over a couple of kittens. Those kittens will sure be confused later on in life. ;o)
