The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread SIX

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I can identify... when we were down visiting ecurbh's family for the wedding, I had a little 'look' I could give ecurbh that meant it would be nice to go take a little drive somewhere! "ahem"[look] "Hey honey, let me drive you down and show you my old high school" "Great!" ~smiles~

I think it's nervous for me because it was really only the second time I've spent time with his family, and I'm trying so hard to be on my best behavior and make a good impression. Because they are so far away I wonder if I'll ever get comfortable ;~D

Yeah, we're hopeing to be leaving here around 6. The traveling AC on our RV does not work. We'd like to get there before the hot part of the day.

Thanks for the encouragement:) The pro's are going to have plenty to teach me, I have not doubt. I just don't want to get there and have them tell me, "Maybe you should consider some other sport:)".

Well, I would have been happy to pitch a tent and sleep under the stars. I wanted to do things. He wanted to rest and visit. I suppose it was good for him but "fun" stesses me sometimes when I have things I need to do.

Another chore done. Beth just came to see how to do the afternoon feeding. CS is coming this evening to get instructions on the morning and evening feedings, and the dog, cat, Jenny's bunny and guinea pig who will be here, and watering the gardens, and feeding hummingbirds:), poor lady, I'm really asking alot aren't I. Everytime I go on a trip I remember why I don't go often.

I am very familiar with that! I had to fly in a farm sitter from Ohio, remember? Gads, just say no to traveling!

ecurbh and I have talked, and perhaps one of us can go somewhere, but we can't do vacations together till we get this solved. ;~D

Every other time I have my kids around to take care of stuff. I have no worries about anything here with CS doing it for me, but I just think it's an awful lot to ask of someone to often.

True enough... I haven't got that.

I do have horsey friends, but like yours, they have their own horses to take care of, and mine aren't particularly nearby.

Stopped by the Olympic National Forest HQ on lunch break today and picked up a trail map for Capitol Forest.

You'll see two loops near where we have already been... One of them, you've been on, in the ride with Tiff. The other, we haven't been on together, it leaves and I think returns at that crossroads we took the picture of.

Actually, I look at it now in the online map, and there's three loops. The smallest near McKenny, we went round with Tiff. The second, we've been on part of, past the falls where we went up a ways and turned around.

The third, we haven't seen at all together, it's higher up, and I know I've been up there but it's been a long time.

I'm looking forward to seeing a nice big map. Been forever since I've really studied where things are.

I got a really good map of the trails at one of our parks last year. I thought it was so much fun following it. I came home and laminated it. I've been anxious to go back and try some more of the trails I haven't done yet:) maps are fun.

I'm really getting into dressage and have been for the past year, and I can't get over how intricate it is and all the things that you can make your horse do with just your body position alone-from the way that you breathe to the way that you stiffen or relax different muscles. It's really amazing. But in doing it, I've noticed how much of a better rider that I've become, and in fact when I first started riding with my new trainer, I honestly thought that I had learned how to ride the wrong way. I'd really recommend dressage lessons to anyone. It really improves your seat and your balance, beacuse dressage all about balance and relaxing and moving with the horse.
