*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, I've got my feed unloaded. I usually unload every week by myself. I would have asked for help today, if any had been available. Mack is working, and it looked like it could rain at anytime so I had to get it unloaded. Now of course the threat of rain looks like it has passed. Oh well it was good excerise. I burned all the old feed bags too. I'm trying to get the place ship shape for while I'm gone and I have people feeding for me.

Well, we're getting ready to go... I actually took this picture yesterday, but I'll use it to set the mood today, it ~will~ look like this, as soon as we get horses caught and groomed up... Horses booted and ready to go, pony half stoned in the paddock. :~D

Hopeing your ride is going good. It got brutally humid here today. I had some chores to get done, and by the time i got done it is just too hot to think of riding. Never did rain, just got humid.

Another good ride...that's wonderful. Getting a lot of use out of those horses and trailer. It's always nice to have extra of everything, and keep in the trailer. Never have to worry about forgetting anything then. That's what it's all about. You and your husband going out and enjoying the great outdoors. Now get that tent out again...lol Did WE get pics today?

The stud is the 53" black and white pony. He has sired 20 foals. Half colts and half fillies and all spotted. We do have to get a culture for Jody, even thou she is a maiden mare. I was looking for a POA, but could not find any close around here.

It was a picture perfect day here. I waxed my truck, water flowers and got the weed wacker out and did part of the fence. I am about beat now. Here is my hard work on my truck. I should have put the hose away before I took the pic...my bad. Notice the tips of the healer's ears on the bottom. The green round thing by the hose, is his toy.

More trail riding pictures! Boy are you guys going to get tired of looking at Bay's ears now that we have a trailer! I swear I'll just show you all this scenery once, and then when I think you know what the area looks like, I'll slow down, I promise! :~D

Today was a great ride... I was only half as nervous as yesterday, and Bay was too... Today he acted like a seasoned horse, not the greenhorn A-Rab horse he was yesterday! Cyn also, was just a trooper.

Tall tree area

Logged area

One of the bridges we crossed today, this one is just like the one from yesterday.

This below is such a cool place -- vine maple branches have overgrown and made an arch over the whole trail. This picture is looking UP as we went under. It's so dark in there that none of the other pictures came out.

This is the rest spot at Mima Falls

And these are the falls ;~D

This is another bridge, right by the rest area and the falls.

This is me next to a HUGE tree I thought you'd enjoy seeing. It's a little obscured by branches, but if you look close you can see how wide it is... I think it makes me look thin ;~D

Another bridge:

Cyn doesn't like to walk in the muddy places, so she takes ecurbh off into the shrubberies on each side of the trail if it's too muddy ;~D There were only a few really bad mud spots now, It'll get better as the summer dries it out.

This is a pretty cool U-shaped bridge. It has a culvert under it with water running too, which makes the horses a little antsy.

And that's all! Terrific day! Terrific hobby, this riding thing! My husband is worn out, it's hard work riding horses! Both of us only had partial use of our knees when we first dismounted at the end. :~D I think our total distance was about 10 miles.

I do admire you, for getting out and running those barrels. It's a lot of work, to get that horse just right. The clinic should be a lot of fun for you and your family.

When Rusty had his stifle problem, could you hear a pop? Snazzy, the QH my daughter leased is having a problem. He was sort of walking on his toes and we could hear a pop sound when backing. She called the vet tech she knows, and she told her to back him, and that pops it back in place. We have given him stall rest for a couple days and he seems better. When I lunged him the other day, the healer was chasing him, and he did a lot of bucking and kicking out at the dog. That probably didn't help either. Oh, and the backing trick, didn't seem to help either.

Thank you, but what a pain to keep clean. I work inside a steel mill, and it gets filthy!

You post as many pictures as you want. I really love seeing them and am so jealous. Those bridges are so cool. I told my SIL that you were in Washington State and he wanted to know if you saw Bigfoot....lol

LOL - ecurbh said he's going to get the picture of Bigfoot.

I think really - who's got the camera in her hand all the time, me, or him?

How far do you have to haul to the trail head?
I get real nervous, hauling horses also. It seems like there is always someone, who has to pull out in front of you.

It's only about seven miles to the forest, all back roads... People seem to want to pass me, so I must still be going too slow ;~D

Gorgeous truck but it's not a Dodge :)

Getting a culture is a very good idea, protection for the stud and it will let you know if there is any potential problem before yous spend a lot of money. Did you get a chance to see the stud?

Such beautiful country there - I don't care for all the bridges though.

They take the bridges in stride, really. They're easier than muddy marshy crossings in those low spots! And there's a lot of muddy low spots.

What beautiful pictures....

You look like you had a great time. Those bridges look scary to me, I'm impressed the horses went over them. Did they hesitate at all?

Thanks:)

No I never noticed a popping sound when his stifle locked. Is what happend is we would be going along and he would suddenly just stop dead, and I'd look down and he would be holding his back leg up and out. Then he would draw it up under him tight, then step off just fine.

I noticed today when he was out running and playing with Harley it did it to him, and he kind of just hopped along, the leg was not bending, it was just stiff.

When I get back from TX I have to get serious about getting him in shape, or get him to the vet.

They are tentative the first time. Then they get pretty used to them! The metal ones that are noisy are the most un-nerving for them, because they seem to get louder and louder and the horses start to want to hurry to get off, and the faster they walk the louder they are ;~D. After the first couple, though, they take them in stride.

The last metal bridge with the big tree next to it gets Bay's attention because it's actually quite high over a big swampy pond with spooky looking logs in it. Next time I'll try to take a picture of what it looks like to look down off the bridges, though I try to have two hands on the horse going over them. ;~D
