*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The fenders don't matter, they don't show. I was looking at the tooled skirting on it, that does show when you're in it, and is faded now. You could oil that dark so it matches the dark areas on the cantle and the front swell that is dark. If you get the darkening oil, it gets darker every time you do it.

I think the kind that darkens is 100% Neetsfoot oil. Lexol doesn't darken. It's one of the things they promote about it. If you've got a light colored saddle and don't want it to darken, use Lexol, otherwise use Neetsfoot oil.

OK - good. I remembered there were different kinds of oils, some that darken, some that don't, I just didn't want to go so far as to name one... ;~D

My old Stubben english saddle was originally a light reddish color, and when I bought it used, it was also unevenly worn and faded. I oiled it down dark, so the whole thing was a dark chocolate color, and it made it look like a newer saddle - at least even!

I thought you might like that chicken house! : )
I'll browse and see if I can't dig up the place for sale, where I got it from. I had big problems yesterday with internet and kept losing stuff........

The only think I don't really like about Neetsfoot oil is that if you get too much on there, it gets sticky. But you can use some saddle soap to get the excess off it if's too bad. The other thing I always wondered is, what is a Neet and why are their feet so oily? ;o)

Heres a link to the place with the chicken house.
http://www.morealestate.net/listings.htm You then have to go on MO search and check out number H956
, It is also listed under jsr1991
It mentions different towns, because I believe it comes uder both! : )
Sorry there is not a better direct link, makes me work harder to find what I need! The first number has the chicken house pics, whereas the second has some extra photos.
We are heading to AR this Friday for a week and then MO for a week, we are checking out real estate! : )

It's weird. I keep posting stuff and it's seeming to take several minutes to show up. I can look at my Pings and see it there but it'll show up like "4427 of 4426". Strange.

Missouri is a beautiful place...we went on vacation there about a month ago and I did indeed check out the real estate. When my husband graduates, hopefully the world will be our oyster and Mo. is one of the places we might like to move to!

Checking out the link now...

forgive my ignorance, but where are you now? We are looking at places in south MO and we are staying first in eureka springs then in black, MO. I am going to send you a private link to the place we are staying in, becasue I dont want everyone to know about it becuase a) it is such a fantastic place, especially for kids, and b) it is secluded and very reasonable! : ) Sorry folks! : )

LOL....well once again I'm going to be the odd ball:), I kind of like the well worn look on a saddle. I didn't like the old stirrups, they were a little too worn. I like my pads and stuff to be new and clean and neat. I like my saddle clean and in good repair, but I kind of like the worn look:), gives it character, lots of stories go with it:), Who'd believe those stories if the thing was pristene:)

The other thing I always wondered is, what is a Neet and why are their feet so oily? ;o)

LOL. That reminds me of joke Mack played on someone one time. Mack use to manage a resturant years ago. One time he told an employee to go make a batch of guacamole. She asked how. He told her the first thing she had to do was go out to a little shed behind the building and catch and kill 2 guacamole's:). He told her to be careful and not look into their faces, as they had big sad eyes and it make it hard to kill them:). He said the girl just stood there with her eyes getting bigger and bigger, and was about in tears thinking she was really going to have to do it:).
