*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

My comfort zone isn't that big yet. I know I shouldn't worry but I do think about a bolt over 48 acres. I know I could get them stopped after awhile but I see trees and fence and maybe holes. I like riding in the open though but I noticed I tended to walk cross ways where the distance was shorter. I hadn't realized until now so I now better stop that. It's just so open.

This is going onto the pedestrian bridge across the Ark. River. It's hard for me to imagine that the first 10 years or so that we lived in Bixby, this is the bridge we drove across, both ways. It's called the Banana Bridge.

Looking up river from the middle of the bridge.

One of many of the Martin Houses that are along the bridge. Bixby is know for it's huge mosquito population. I don't think this helps, but their neat to see.

Looking back at the bridge from the bike trail.

Looking down the bike trail after going under the bridge

My parents have horses. Whenever I go home, I end up helping them out. Sometimes it is frustrating if they don't do something I want them to do. I sometimes ride one of them.

I'll never be one to say you shouldn't worry.... While I think sometimes getting pushed past fears is the best thing for us, I'd never belittle a person for their fears. I'm a pro at worrying! I absolutely think arena work is good for you. I'm applying my interests to your situation and I shouldn't.

That shady bike trail is beautiful! And the river is huge! I had no idea the Arkansas river was that wide!

Yes that is suppose to be a beam from one of the WTC towers.

That is a stage in the front of the amphitheather. Remember in the spring when I talked about going to the blues festival in town. This is where is was held. The bands played up there. It's nice, but I thought amphitheaters were round cave like shaped. Blake calls this the house that isn't a house:). There is no inside to it. It's just flat.

Just some stuff I feel more comfortable secured like riding bareback for balance, without stirups, different gaits, that kind of stuff. I like the freedom though of an open area. I know it probably sounds weird but I want to ride thru that road of trees. It's like a tunnel, I thought this weekend I would walk them thru. I don't see anything but the trees that could spook. It's fenced on both sides.

See now why I get so aggravated at the bike riders on the roads....We have bike trials like this all over the place, They just about have the whole length of the river where you can ride it all the way thru to the other side of Tulsa.

OK - first I tell you I understand fears, and now I'm going to contradict that and tell you to get over this one. You should get over this idea that you should lead them places before riding there. In that situation, nothing is better than just doing. Trail riding is about riding. IF you have trouble, get off and lead them through it... I'll not say you should push trouble spots on horseback, but don't go too long thinking you have to pre-walk all places before riding. I don't want you getting yourself in that mindset, it will paralize you from ever going anywhere.

I understand fear, but that one is a mind hurdle you have to train yourself to get over... soon ;~D

This thing is going so slow tonight....

Well, I need to call it quits for the night. I'm going to try and go barrel race tomorrow night, so it will be a late night. I'm kind of peeved. I really wanted to practice tonight and tomorrow morning but the rain stopped that....

I'll see how I feel about it tomorrow.

Good night.
