This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Very cool if they decide to use it!
She should have gotten the email immediately when she registered, if she didn't, I'd wonder if she entered the email wrong? Or something else went wrong. Send a FRMail to Jimrob, perhaps, with your daughter's login name...
Once they know how to lunge, they don't need no round pen ;~D
Did you go there yesterday? What happened with the farrier?
"What the heck happened yesterday?"
Couple of theories:
1. People actually got a life and enjoyed a Sunday away from the computer
2. The Adm of FR was bumped off by folks (too many to name) that he has hacked off over the past year.
3. Hurricane Dennis hit the building the main server is located in.
4. FR Pledges aren't what they should be so they shut it down to scare everyone.
5. Rose of Sharn unplugged the dang server on accident.

Sharn did it! Sharn did it!
Yes, Ghost is the horse we just got and the one Bob will use for endurance if he works out.
Good morning. It depends on the size of the round pen and the size (length) of the panels. I think the one you see has 16 ten or twelve foot panels and a gate. It's a 50' across round pen. (I think) Bob and Tracey change them so often I'm never really sure, but it is 50' or 60'.
I know that some on this thread enjoy chatting with you Keith... Personally, I have always thought you were sortof a pest. Nonetheless, I did make an appeal for you to be reinstated when you got banned last time, only because the other girls missed you.
However, you seem to not only not give a damn what the rules are about re-enrolling, you seem to be incapable of learning from it.
I will not have you here badmouthing the moderators or management of Free Republic. The Saddle Club thread is a guest here, and I'll not have your posting here jeopardize the Saddle Club's welcome at FR.
We are conservatives who also like and keep horses. I've never seen one post from you indicating an interest in either horses or conservatism. I've not reported you to the mods before, in fact, I have discouraged others who have spoken privately with me about reporting you... "He's annoying but harmless" I've said. But I am reporting you now. Keith, if you return, I'll report you again.
Sorry to anyone here who doesn't agree.
He's doing well, he has put on weight and muscle. He has learned voice commands and lunging, so he just had to learn to carry a rider. He went into a canter on the wrong lead but was able to switch, and he was confused when Tracey first started reining him, but by the end of the lesson, understood what he was being asked. He accepted a rider very well for a newbie. They spent several minutes just getting him used to weight in a stirrup and someone mounting, dismounting, before moving him forward at a walk, then trot and once around the ring in a canter. The whole lesson didn't last 30minutes.
Hair, here's a quarter. Go buy a life.
I'm really confused looking at Tuffy's coloration. I'm wondering if he is a dun with dun markings of some kind. He has black on his legs also. Duns get the black bars on their legs and from the withers, I'm not sure about the neck. I think I'll send a hair sample off to UC Davis for testing.
Any black hairs appearing in his mane or tail at all?
Do you have more recent pictures of the rest of him?
Out you go.
FWIW, I agree.
Becky
Thanks. I hope the others understand!
In other news, it's still raining, and the forum database misbehaviors that made the forum go down yesterday are apparently still causing troubles this morning, with posts appearing and disappearing, and taking a long time to post. Hang on, it appears it ain't over yet! ;~\
Did you take pics to show us?
Our round pen is 11 x 8ft panels and a gate. It works pretty good. Are you going to buy or build? We got all the panels etc in one trip on the back of James truck and a dog kennel! That was a huge load I can assure you! LOL I got a crick in my neck from checking it wasnt slipping all the way home, but then I'm a worry wort! : D
my above post reads wrong..........not enough coffee! LOL
We have 11 panels that are 8ft long! : ) plus gate
Yes, I took pictures at Beth's house, and of our bike ride. Unfortuntaly the mouse on Mack's computer is locked up, so till he gets home and fixes it I can't post pictures. He's working and won't be home till later.
Is what I was going to show you was all the trees at Beths house that the horses haven eaten the bark off of. I counted 12 done recently. I was just wondering if anyone knew why a horse would suddenly start doing that.
Becky
I don't know why they'd eat tree bark, except that some horses are wood eaters and fence eaters out of boredom, if nothing else.
Tiff's ~goat~ used to eat tree bark. Of course, it'll kill the trees.
