This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
the goblin ate some of my post again..... Grrr
It should have also had ROFL : D
Good luck. MT you can borrow mine but you would have to come get it and bring it back. Oh and fix the lights lol. There is supposed to be a lot of stuff going on where my horses are. I'm checking it out. Nothing ever happened (that I could find) around here and the outbreak at the stables squashed the plans for a local club. I'm getting everything ready and getting on a schedule so we can have free weekends. I think that's why I didn't fight to hard to go this weekend. So much I needed to do and the trip would have been very unorganized. I'll be ready by Friday though:')
Good luck! You work all week, and then weekend comes, and there is all this work around the "ranch". Here it is a beautiful day, and I am on the PC. Yesterday, I was on the tractor, mowing pasture, and trails. Always so much to do, and not much help. There was a shooting tournament today, and I didn't even feel like going to that. Think, I will just take the day off..lol
I have a question.........I can hear you all groaning already! LOL
I was always of the opinion that when a horse was gelded (many years ago), that he no longer had the URGE to respond to "winking"! Well Smokey hasnt read that rule book! LOL
I know in humans it doesnt make a dimes worth of difference, so maybe I have got it wrong about horses.....
Can someone enlighten me? ~blushes~ : )
Hopefully, the storms will have passed by then. We have been really dry here. I have been watering all the plants, (vegs, and flowers). Very hot predicted for the next few days. In the low 90's.
Has anyone EVER got all the jobs that needed doing done? I havent! Never! LOL.............one job always leads to another and so on! : )
That may change but right now that's fun work for me:')
Well you are going to have to define "winking" before I can respond to your post:')
Have a good time and keep us posted. James, don't forget to take the checkbook!
I hope you are out of harm's way with this storm.
Above post #4251 to you too....sorry
Yea! We're back!
Castration is different in horses than what you are comparing to in people. With castration, the testicles, the hormones and the ability are ~gone~ any urges that remain are purely instinctual or force of habit. In people, the hormones and testicles remain, they just cut the tubes... Function remains, there just isn't anyone on the highway. ;~D
It's not really common for geldings to go so far as mounting a mare. (though, if you remember a couple months back, Bay was doing just that, and I posted pictures of the spectacle) It is however, normal for geldings, as well as other mares, to show some interest and follow the mare around making curling lip expressions.
If he's mounting her, there is a little bit of danger if/when she decides she's had enough and decides to kick him. More likely, he'll lose interest before she does, when he realizes it's not getting him anywhere. I haven't noticed ours get ~as~ out of hand as they did the first heat cycle of the season. After that, Bay has given up, mostly. I'm guessing this is the first heat cycle these two have been together? Is it out of hand, or just curiosity?
If you'd ever seen Sarah Lee do it, you wouldn't need a definition ;~D
Any word from our Alabama folk?
Lol.
The Ohio Horseman Council is an organization that Jack Weese told me about. He's real active in it.
Talk to you all in the morning! I'm beat! Hope Alabama is getting power back on and our friends will check in!
Night. I have to do my schedule and pay some bills and then I'm calling it a night too.
