Here is one looking off a hill on the road to her house.
Here's her driveway.
And her house.
Becky
Dang.... once you come off that hill, it's flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!
How much land does she have?
She has 20 acres.
Years ago Mack and I bought 40. We gave each kid 20, so Charlies house is on the other side of the 40 from Jenny. I tried to get a picture of his house from the road when I passed it going to Jenny's but it didn't come out very good.
Yeah we live on a ridge of mountians called Concharty Mountains. Their really not much more then hills when compared to real mountains, but they make for pretty views:)
Becky
Sure, and where you ride, you must be right in the middle of them, because there's quite a bit of climbs.
Very cool gift of that land.
LOL - your logic is pretty much like Bob's is. My goal is to go from 19 horses down to 5 or 6 :)
Ouch.... sounds like a pretty harsh cut!
We had originally bought this land to put our brood mares we were going to have on after we bought Rocky. We did do tha for a few years, had about 4. But taking care of livestock that is away from where you live is a real pain. Especially in winter when they need to be fed 2 times a year.
We thought about selling and moving there too at one time, but just never had the ambition, so giving it to the kids was the best thing. Kept them close, but far enough that we don't infringe on each others lives.
Becky
Same here. I'm trying to go form 4 total to three, which means 3 total, but only 2 here at the house.
Becky
Looks great! And that's where Belle is now? I can't imagine having to go somewhere else to tend critters twice a day.... Does Belle get fed now or is there adequate pasture? Foot trimming?
Jenny and Travis feed her for me. But right now she only needs it once a day.
She pretty much keeps her feet wore down on her own. Maybe about once a year I have the farrier trim her. She needed it when she first got here this year, but I let the rocks here trim them for her.
They don't have any rocks there.
Becky
Well that's easy if she doesn't need trims very often. Boy ours sure do. Pony just hangs out here and she gets trimmed every 8 weeks with the others.
Now, Beaker, if you're gonna play on the thread, ya gotta keep up! ;o)
I can't sleep. Sigh. My BIL said the ferrier told him over the phone that he will probably recommend pulling the shoes. I don't want to go thru that phase again
Why would he recommend that? What's the issue?
:) Well, I do have Bob the husband, also have a colt named Tuffy. That's his barn name anyway.
Says the horses in that area usually don't need them. He's coming out Sat which is why I really want to be there this weekend. I really need to stay here and cook and clean too. Eddie and I need a "wife" :')
Pretty country.
I believe we are going through 4 bales of hay per day right now, plus all the grain, supplements, meds, etc. for twice daily feeding. It's a killer with hay averaging $8.25 a bale right now.
If you aren't home, who would you be cooking for? ;~D
Well, farriers who think horses don't need shoes would have gone out of business in the old world. Sounds like one of those 'natural hoof barefoot trim' type guys. How'd you find him?
I dunno. I'm skeptical about this new trend, It's certainly far from rocky here and prior to this year I didn't know anyone who didn't shoe horses as the default, unless they are really just put out to pasture. Tiffney's trying hers barefoot now. Her horses couldn't walk on the gravel logging roads, they were trying to pussy foot around the edges. I think it's a fad, and I'm not going to jump on it for at least a few years... see how they really do. Bay's never going back.... we'll see how Cyn does. So far, she's great. But under the amount of work she's doing now, she barely needs a trim at 8 weeks. Any more work, and she'd be wearing down to the soft stuff.
