*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah - I have a wrist rest on the keyboard, but it's the mouse that caused the problem. I now have a gel pad on the mouse pad, and rest my entire arm on a folded towel when I use the mouse.

We have a built in system, and Emma has her own so that she doesnt have to watch Thomas the Tank engin! LOL However, on Amazon they have some pretty good deals with the ones that clip onto the headrests. System with 2 screens about $230 I think!

Nice. I wonder why land is so much less in Kentucky?

My goodness that's cheap. I just can't imagine. Here, we'll be lucky to find 20 acres for around $200,000... and that's undeveloped. If there's any kind of house on it, it's more... sometimes way more if it's got too much house.

I am very emotionally bound to this area, but sometimes I wonder why.

That price is unusual. The area is absolutly stunning though! We really need more pasture though. To have wild ginseng on your land is worth a lot! It's a preety place though. To be able to get 200 acres (-0.5) for $115,000............that cant be bad! : )

I know it sounds funny, and it's just chickens....But it was horrible. You could see some poor hapless hen out there with all the roosters standing around waiting their turn, one right after another, some took 2 turns, and the poor hen squawking the whole time....If I could get to them in time, I always kicked the s#!T out of the roosters. But then I felt bad doing that too....they were just being roosters. It was my fault for not having enough hens. Vicious circle. In trying to get more hens, you land up with more roosters too unless you buy them... and I'm too cheap.

The best solution for me is just keep roosters if at all possible. Their cheap, no one wants their roosters, so I can give them a home and a purpose:). If that doesn't work, I'll probably just go buy some hens. or do without, depending on how bad the ticks move back in.

That part of Kentucky is very beautiful. Think, for that money you could set up a horse ranch, and stables and be in the heart of Kentucky where they live and breathe horses! It's near enough to tourism places to start a vacation ranch!
We travelled right by that way last year and I loved it!

I think you will get a lot of fighting amongst the roosters even without the hens. But to do without poultry means ticks. : ( We are lucky with ours, but some breeds are not so vicious as others, some are more laid back in nature.
If it were me, i wouldnt go overboard in collecting a LOT of roosters until i knew it worked. If it doesnt then I would just get hens and get rid of all the roosters.
Good luck Becky!
BTW seeing any animal, birds etc struggling or in pain is not nice no matter what it is. (snakes not included).

Just checked the weather maps. I don't get it. Dennis projected between LA and FL. The TX FR guys say some models show it turning west though and keep a heads up.

"One of the females had just had babies and a male was all over her, wouldn't leave her alone. It took every ounce of restraint that I could muster to keep from drop-kicking his sorry butt across that pen."

Now see here, that kind of attitude wouldn't have netted you five kids!

There is a house in town for sale. It belongs to a friend of my sons. It was literally"given" to him free of charge by his grandmother. 25 years old, a beautiful beautiful debt free house in a prime location, right on the Main road thru Bixby, right next door to the feed store, a resturant on the other side, so he doesn't have to worry about neighbors moving in. I'm not sure how much land, but it has a barn, and backs up to beautiful wooded lands. This dumb ass kid mortaged it so he could get furniture, and cars, and boats and who knows what else. Now he is ahaving to sell it to get out of debt he can't pay. I think he's asking $225,000. It probably only has 2-5 acres with it, but dam. His grand mother literaly built this house herself. Did all the rock work. I'll try to get a picture of it next time I'm in town. I can't imagine what she is thinking of doing to the kid for doing what he did. I'd kill him. I don't know what made me type this:), but everytime I hear of people buying and selling houses now I think about that kid. I heard on the news that Bixby is the fastest growing community in the state right now....this kids house is going to do nothing but increase in value to heaven knows what....it makes me sick to think about it. dumb kids.
