The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread SIX

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That is why I was looking at the large buses. Really wanted one to travel with also. I keep checking every day and maybe soon will find one.

There's a woman that I house sit for who has a satellite, and they don't carry RFDTV anymore!...

I'll bet it's there, but just not on her "favorites" list. There's a way only include only certain channels and you save it as a list and when you activate that list, it doesn't show the excluded channels anymore. I have Dish Network and my remote has a button called "guide" and if you push it multiple times, it'll flip through the favorites lists that have been set up. There are 2 defaults, "All Channels" and "All Subscribed", and you should at least be able to find it on one of those.

Oh, not good. Last night it was the third barrel he was hesitating at. Right behind it are some pens with horses standing tied, he was checkiing them out. We were taking it slow, you know doing exhibitions the first two at the trot, seems that gave him more time to gawk around. The third one we loped, but I was anticipating trouble then and wasn't pushing, which was the wrong thing to do. Still a combination of both of us being green at this. We both just needs lots of practice.

Yes and no. Yes it is fun to go, and I'm at least doing it now no matter how bad, I just get frustrated with my self for letting my nervousness get the best of me. I have high loped that horse with no problem out on trails, ducking branches, going around curves, no problem. I don't understand why when I'm in the arena I freeze up at pushing him.....I think the mind thing is harder to deal with then an unruly horse.

I like it beacuse it's the only channel that will show freestyle dressage, and you never get to see that on TV except for the olympics. (Or at least I never have) The Outdoor Life Network, (OLN) would show jumping events at 3 in the afternoon every day years ago, but they stopped doing that. (Darn them) Sometimes you can catch stadium jumping on ESPN classic (I think it's ESPN)

OK - But what's the fear? That you won't be able to control him or stop him? That he'll act out? That you'll fall off? That the public is watching? What exactly do you fear?

I'm not a shrink, but I play one on the thread ;~D

I'm afraid of speed in general. Not because you're going fast, but because they have a lot more energy behind them if they decide to spook. So I'm afraid of speed spooking I guess. :-p

I think it's that if I get him going I won't be able to control it.

Is it just me, or doesn't he look like he could really be fast:). And he's not lazy at all like Rusty is. Rusty really has to be prodded to get him going. Harley goes very easy, but he's never been a runaway. He's always stopped immediatly when asked. He doesn't fight it, shake his head, try to keep going etc.

It's me, it's not the horse.

At the clinic I was starting to push for more speed between barrels, and he was fine, and he didn't take off full blast like I was expecting, he just increased when asked, so I don't know why I get nervous. I feel like people in rehad clinics. :). You know you've heard the stories of people who have some physical handicaps going to a rehab. And they're doing great, can do everything, but then when it comes time to be discharged they get scared and don't think they can do it away from the clinic without the support....I was doing it at the clinic, now I'm regressing....

But no more. This week we're working everyday, and next week my times are going back the other way.....:)

Becky
