*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Me too. We aren't happy with the holding pen though. It will have to do for a couple of weeks but Sarah Lee needs more room when herded. That's why when someone there they are in the bigger area. They are getting along really good. He doesn't bother her with eating but thinks the water tank all his. He kicked her once and I was going to climb all over him but I didn't because I think it was a gentle kick if there is such a thing. She didn't act like it hurt or jump bad out of the way and I figured they had to work it out..

I just spoke with my BIL. He says they are doing fine. After he feeds in the morning he's going to pick up thh 5th wheel. Hopefully, no more motels or eating out for us. ($$$)

Have you posted a pic of Smokey? I remember you talking about him but don't think I've seen him.

Thats great news! Travelling is expensive enough right now without hotel bills too! It looks like they have plenty of lush pasture, you have found a beautiful place there!

I read a lot and I came across a chapter about most mares and geldings should be pastured seperately and "pairs" are rare. Mine seem bonded and get along most of the time though. My mare doesn't seem distressed.

My husband dangling a carrot. We have a lake lot that we hardly go to anymore. We have been offered double for what we paid for it. He wants to sell. I don't. He's been..."if you would sell, I could build you a cabin and you know you would like a nice arena and...hmpt.

I posted a pic of Smokey and Sugar earlier but they are in the distance. Smokey is big. Much taller than any of the others, but he was used to teach children, he is as gentle as a lamb, and should he spook, which is rare, he was taught to spook on the spot! He was wanted and is still wanted by lots of people that new him and rode him, we were lucky to get him. He is not the prettiest of horses, He has many different colors and when wet looks a mess because all the different pimentation shows up, lots of light speckeld grey and speckled tan. His mane is two tone. Here is a pic of him in one of our small electric fence areas.

What an appropriate name. I think he is very pretty. Have you had a chance to ride him yet?

well I guess we are both lucky that our mares and geldings get along good then! As for selling the lake lot, I wouldnt hesitate if it meant a cabin near the horses. : ) Good carrot to dangle on your hubbys part! LOL
