This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I like better animal parks and zoos that have large, interesting enclosures too.
Thanks for the pics! We're headed out to knock down bracken so we can move our horses back into the back forty again where it's shady. The front pasture is dying fast in the sun. More to eat in the back.
Rose, to look at your pics, where you have a lot more heat, and everything is still green! You must get more rain than I think. My pasture is so dry already.
It gets so hot and humid that a storm brews nearly every evening giving us a little shower...........just enough to keep the grass green. In the mornings when I go out, the grass is always very wet.
We got them moved to the back, where it's greener and cooler, in the shade.
Don't know but I'm going to find out tomorrow. I have a new vet looking at her this week.
The front pasture does look dry! Glad you have the shady back! I am having to mow every week here!
Gotta shut down, thunderstorm outside. Chat later.....: D
Really? I'm so tired of aol.
Welcome back, how did it go?
RE the email.... ditch aol... you definately don't need that... but the @freerepublic email address will only forward to another account, it isn't a mail address, just amail forwarder. There are lots of better email servers than aol, though.
Okie scared me Sun morning. He was laying in the field on his belly. Sarah Lee was standing beside him. I called and he just laid there. When I walked up he stayed there. He was alert and seemed ok and I petted him awhile. I went to get the lead rope and Eddie told him "Okie, get up" (duh) and he did. He was fine and just resting. It's only the 2nd time I have seen him down and I couldn't believe he was all cozy with just laying there basking in attention and letting me pet him.
It is unusual. I'd have been concerned, if he never has let you do that before. With the diet change and stress of the trip, it wouldn't surprise me that he did have a mild colic happening.
So have you got the whole story with pictures? we need the whole report!
Happy Birthday
Thanks. I kind of drifted right of the hill country. It's still my favorite vacation spot though:')
It was over 100 every day! A burn ban is in effect so mine lucked out this time.
Glad the loading with the mommas and babies went well. (I haven't got to any lightening posts yet:')Mine loaded fine too. No drugs and they rode well. My husband says I have an overactive worry gland:')
Cool pictures. Maybe a stupid question but can horses swim?
You will still see them. I know how you feel though. I felt so sad leaving Okie and Sarah Lee. My eyes burning thinking about it.
So very cute. :~D
Glad yours did well too. We didnt give ours any drugs either. If I could have found a place open, I would have got some, but we didnt need them though thank goodness. : )
We just had a whole load of rain, storm has moved over now and we'll be in the pool soon. Lots cooler. : )
