*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

OK - I've loaded some that I think are sortof artsy to an album... I don't know that they measure up to the previous covers ;~D

One thing I noticed in the previous covers is that at least a couple of them are 'arted up' using photoshop effects. We're capable of doing this, but it's possible they have their own graphic arts people who would want to do that. Some of mine I have photoshopped out things like ugly fences or clutter, but the pictures are relatively untouched. They could be improved. An example of what's possible is this photo of Bay that we used as the saddle club graphic... It's ~nice~ untouched, but more striking when 'arted up'.

Anyway.... here's the link to the gallery.... They are in two albums... 'horses at play' and 'horses in snow'. I took out ones that were either marginal quality or not nearly high resolution enough to be useful in a cover print.

Our Horses

Feel free to forward that link.

Oh - and in that album, if you click the displayed picture, it will load the full size. Some of them are very high resolution, and they'll want the highest.

Yes, we got a very good rain this morning. And now it is very cool and pleasant. But I bet tomorrow it's gonna be like a steam bath here.

The vet I drive so far to see uses a power float too. He says that on some horses with really bad teeth, you just can't get them done with a manual float. You'd be there rasping forever and the horse just couldn't take it for that long, even sedated. But you do have to be more careful with them because you can take off more tooth than you really meant to very quickly.

Yeah - it still seems like doing art with a chainsaw.... which I know can be done, but it's a crude, rough process, compared to the sterile impliments used on our own mouths.

Oh I've tried to ignore this woman, and I really apologize for ranting. I think I know what the abuse stems from. The school that I go to is not liked by the town, and beacuse I'm a student there she feels that it is her civic duty to be nasty, even though I myself am a local. This really didn't start until she found out that I was a student there.

I use to use a dentistry specialist too who only used hand tools. I've never seen power tools used.

Yikes!!!! That power rasp looks really really really scary!! Who would have thought to invent that to use on a horse?

HA! Probabaly! The guys I used to use floated teeth with hand tools, and they were big musclily burly guys and they always wore muscle shirts with their company logo on them only they were hot pink and neon blue. (Wierd) It was a father and son team.

Today we replaced some of the moldy green old electric tape with new clean white tape... which Cyn found fascinating.

She's inspecting the rest of the fence... trying to figure out how it all works... "Hey... I don't think this thing is even is on!"

In time, even this event lost it's appeal.

She's such a strange horse.... she'll drop and roll right at your feet.

I think it's called complete trust :) She doesn't feel at all threatened by you and just assumes that you'll keep her safe if something threatening comes along.
