*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Why so frequent? I'd be surprised that there's enough new foot to nail to at 5 weeks.

You should have crowed in return. Wonder what his reaction would have been.

No:). I truely thought about answering him. My kids say I make a great rooster call:) Especially in the summer when the trees have leaves it's hard to see over there. You can't see it at all right now.

This neighbor is on the other side of my arena. My arena is on our west property line.

The other day when I was riding Rusty and got frustrated with him....welll, lets say i need to remember there are people over there now:).

Tuffy has a broken back hoof pastern axis with the accompanying long toe/no heel. If I go longer than 5 weeks his feet are a major mess. He grows at the toe and not the heel. I'll try to get some pics today so you can see the problem but he has fresh shoes on now. I also need to get pics of that indoor arena going in. They've made a ton of headway.

They're so CUTE! And their ears aren't nearly as long as I thought they'd be. How many boys and girls and which is which?

Oh, do you mean he has a crack in his hoof that goes into the coronet band, causing his foot to have a permenat crack. We had a horse like that. It can be a pain to deal with.

I sure would be interested to see that. What do you mean by 'broken'? Do you just mean that conformationally his angles are wrong or do you mean he's had an injury there?

Well, I think it'd have hurt his pride to know you heard him crowing ;~D Better to let him be, I agree ;~D

The horse we had had been injured and had cut the coronet band. Consequently, his hoof wall had a permenant crack. It looked like it grew like scar tissue in the crack, but it wasn't stable with out shoes. and if it got too long even with shoes he would be lame. I think is what happens is the crack altho filled in still moved/rubbed or what ever with each step and caused pain. As long as I shoed every 6 wks he was fine. He was a great big horse tho, and when he got older even doing that didn't help. He was my son's first roping horse.

Yeah, anybody who's gonna be crowing back at roosters in other people's yards needs to be prepared for a little bit of ragging if somebody hears him. Most construction workers couldn't give a rat's @$$ what other people think. ;o)

This is a pretty good description of the problem. It's not an injury, it's a conformational problem.

No, I never could find/get the browse button to show.

But it did finally dawn on me (Duh), I just made an album of the pictures she wanted and sent them the album from snapfish. I haven't heard from her, so I'm assuming she got them.

That's interesting. especially the fact that the problem is so prevelant people think of it as normal.
