*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well at the time that was what I thought. But now I realize, when he was showing signs of sickness, I should have asked for more help. But on the other hand. even if I had known that regular milk is not what they were talking about, he still probably wouldn't have made it. He had all the symptoms of not getting enough colostrum..

Well I hope everything turns out happy.
Sugar is in heat at the moment and I am so glad there is a small field between her and Lightning cause they are both "aware" of each other! : )

Rocky is always "aware" of Belle, but she isn't of him, thank goodness. When she is, I'll know it's time.

You thought he just had those horns for looks? Maybe I should have explained more about the nature of goats... : ' }

I hope the tests come back clear for Belle, and that it's smooth sailing, even though you've got a couple check-ups still coming :~D

Yeah, I guess I should take it one thing at a time instead of thinking of all the things that "can" go wrong:) Even if her progesteron is low or high or whatever, that can be fixed, from what I understand. I told the vet, I don't want to loose another. I think she understood I didn't want to loose another:)

I didn't realize I'd be so disappointed, but I was. i want another one just like Dot is. Actually I want 5:) Is that asking too much.

Leg yeilding is what I was thinking. Pushing her over into the puddle.

Well, we're going to work on leg yielding and side-passing... we aren't entirely sure how well she does either, but up until today, ecurbh wasn't using much leg at all just neck reining her, and she'd take him off into the shrubberies around puddles like those. We hadn't really talked about it, and a little leg, as well as slapping her once or twice seems to be all it took to get her to go through instead of around. She can really act like she's going to be a pill, but it really doesn't take a whole lot of correction to get your way.... she only puts up small fights.

I did talk to her about Rusty too. She said if he's not locking up to keep on what I'm doing for a week, and then increase time, and trot some for the next week.

It's really a shame that you lost this last one, and I'm hoping she's healthy and does well for you now. I'd be more than disappointed, I understand.

Sad, but at least you now know, and everyone else knows that cows milk is not good for the digestion of goats.
It breaks down very differently. Goats milk is much easier to digest, which is why some people who are allergic to cows milk can drink goats milk. The average size of goat milk fat globules is about 2 micrometers, as compared to 2.5 to 3.5 micrometers for cow milk fat. If you have cause to ever have another little baby goat or anyone else on this site does. Your message will help that little one to live. : D

That's the thing you just never know about a new horse. What is their limit. Takes alot of time and riding to find out. Small fights are nice. Harley still will avoid a puddle if I let him. If there is room I do, otherwise, we do some weaving, but I think I've seen his worst, and it's not bad. He will go, but it does require some spurs. My old legs just don't have alot of umph:). But a touch of the spur and straight he goes.

I figured out I still need the spurs with him for trails, but in the arena I'm taking them off.

Well, I hated to be a whiny baby, but it hurt. I could still tear up over it. I really wanted this one, and she carried it so long. So I'm really hoping this time.

Um let's just say that I am now very aware of what those horns are for! Thank you kindly.

Thanks. You know when you are doing things new, sometimes you just don't realize you need help. Does that make sense.

Small fights are wonderful. We really lucked out with her. She can look like she's gonna be bad when she pins her ears and glares, but if you just slap her and say EH EH! she submits to whatever it is, so far. It's just her mare-tude.

I think they'll all avoid puddles if they can, But she cam close to peeling ecurbh off on Fridy, taking him off under branches.

I just crack up that they'll go in those fast rivers, and balk at a mud puddle.

I've wondered about that too. I've come to the conclusion it's that puddles are usually cloudy, and moving creeks, rivers, are clear. I'd be more prone to go willingly into clear water then cloudy too, so why shouldn't they.

Oh yes it makes sense that is why I read so much stuff about horses and ask no matter what you all think of me! I am new to horses, I dont hide it, and I know what I dont know which i think is a good thing.
Oh yes, you asked me what we were using on Smokeys sore leg, a while back, it is called "cutheal' i think. There is also a cream that keeps the flies away from wounds. I didn't dress his wound, just cleaned it and put this stuff on it and it is healing up great. : )

True enough! I don't walk in them either.

Oh - Bay had a dry spot today under the saddle. Right behind the wither on one side. The saddle had slipped back as we went, there was a lot of climbing and I should have had the breast collar on and didn't. I'm hoping that's the only reason it wasn't sitting on him right. It's been good up till today.

And - this is the first day Cyn really sweat. She sweat on her chest and shoulders today for the first time... She's stayed so dry on every ride so far I was starting to wonder about her.

Thanks:), you know at the time it happened, I didn't want to talk or think about it much, blew it off like there was always next year. I didn't realize till today how much I want this to happen this time. Tomorrow I'll feel a whole lot better. I think if she is clear, I'm sure she'll get pregnant. and since I know there are things to check we can keep her pregnant. I just didn't know.
