This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I understand... and your medical background probably gives you a wider comfort zone in talking about this stuff... Mine was just a general protest ;~D
I think the trouble with your recent situation was you had conflicting vets, and poor communication from either of them, right? Weren't the owner's vet and your vet at odds on whether they even had strangles? I think in any case, it doesn't sound like it was handled as well as it could have been at that barn. I think they were slow to correctly identify and take steps to control the spread.
Blake and I are back from our ride. We rode about 2 hours, then got hungry:) I'm loading pictures, they will be up shortly.
It's so fun riding with a little person. We talked about flowers, bugs, snakes...
Becky
I look forward to the pics. :~D
Seeing the world through the eyes of a little person (and I'm biased) especially little boys is seeing a whole new world isn't it?
Our talk about flowers made me think, I may take pictures of all the different kinds out in the woods, post them and see if I can find out some more names to tell him. He thought it interesting that there was a flower call "indian paint brush" and "spider wart". Those are about all I'm familiar with as far as their names.
We saw a snake crossing the creek. Actually Grizzly found it, yikes, it struck at him just as I saw it. Luckily it miss. I'm not familiar with many snakes either, just Black snakes, rattlesnakes, and copperheads. I don't know what a water moccasion looks like.
Becky
Yes it is. He's a really neat kid. We ate lunch on the patio, watching the hummingbirds. He liked that, except that the male one kept chasing off the female. He thought I should get up and chase the male away. so the female could get a drink:)
Becky
Eeek! We don't have any poisonous snakes here... If we did I'm not sure I'd ever go out in the bushes!
Most of them are as scared of us as we are of them. Except maybe copperheads.
Snakes don't bother me as much as bugs.
Becky
Well, we don't have any poisonous bugs either... 'cept a few black widows, and the give a nasty welt but not much more than that.
I have a little experience with rattlesnake country from Arizona... walking always where you could see your feet, and carrying a stick. We had small rattlers in Eastern WA where I went to school too.
But you're right... the creepiest critter on the planet is a bug... I've seen scorpions in Phoenix.
water moccasions are aggressive too, they will strike without provocation. Have I mentioned before that I HATE SNAKES!
Back to nice little trail rides on beautiful horses.......: )
Hey - I love the NW... no regularly life threatening weather events like hurricanes and tornados, no poisonous bugs, no poisonous or man eating reptiles...
My very first night here in America, i was staying at James lake house and a scorpion was in the bottom of my bed and bit/pinched my toe! OUch! I couldnt believe it! It was the first scorpion that I had ever seen, and the first james had seen at the lake house. I saw two whilst we were there! Urgh!
Hope this is not to many:)
Becky
Not too many at all! fabulous pics! He seems like a pretty comfortable rider! and that's Dot right?
Yes that is Dot. He does real well on her.
Becky
It's a pretty impressive statement abot Dot that he can ride her through pretty tough obstacles like that water.... seeing as how she is so young herself. I see he carries a crop, to let her know he means business even if he's small :~D
Not having kids, I never know how much to expect they can handle! I know that kids who are allowed big tasks, like handling a horse, can take on many things that more cautious people would cringe at.
Maybe this was a water moccasion, it went after Grizzly for no reason.
Becky
There is one little boy having a fantastic time.
