This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
(This is deaconjim) You may have the lower element burned out. The top element will heat some of the water, and it seems fine until you start using enough to get to the water at the bottom of the tank. If it is the bottom element, you will have plenty of hot water, but it will take a long time to recover after each use.
I don't know. The same thing happening this morning. My husband up over an hr ago and things fine. I just took a shower with just the hot water. At first it was room temp and then cold. Do you have to replace the entire heater or can you just change elements if that is what it is?
Morning. Are you still planning on going to your cabin this weekend? I remember you saying, you were going to take a long weekend. Have a good time!
Heaters are not that expensive and the newer ones sure can save on energy. Is your's very old? My hard well water is tough on the heaters.
Are you going to go riding on the same trails, as before?
Partially yes.... The trails are all loops, and we haven't gone all the way around yet, only gone up part way and turned around. We'll go all the way round this time I think.
There's also a linking trail that connects one trail head to the other. I don't know if you remember the trail ride last summer where we were looking for the cutoff that went to the falls, and we missed it.... ended up going around the loop twice and still couldn't find it? Anyway I can find it from the fall trail so we thought we'd track it backwards and see for sure where it comes out on the river side. Clear as mud? ;~D
This is a pretty unusually cool spring, I think, though anything can happen in June. Last year at this time we were lucky, praying for nice weather for our outdoor wedding ;~D
Good morning.
We had a very had storm last night that knocked the electric out. It just came back on. I don't know if I missed my cup of coffee or the internet most for my morning wake up routine:)
Luckily the wind, lightening, and thunder woke me up before the rain hit last night. I had to run outside in all that and get my saddle, It was out by my saddling tree. I've got to get my trailer moved back up there. It's hard lugging that thing back and forth to the house.
It is still thundering and cloudy now, so it may be awhile before I get to ride. I've got to get out there in a bit, Harley had a cut on his leg when I went to feed this morning. A quick look doesn't look serious, but I want to clean it up and get a better look.
Becky
Good grief! Glad you got your power back on.... I don't know which I'd miss more either.
I've got to get going soon here, to take ecurbh to work and head up to the beach house. I'm taking my weed-wacker to do some work for my dad while I'm there, so I'll be gone all day.
The image of you running out into the storm to get your saddle is sortof amusing... ;~D
Good morning.
Sorry for the late ping, we had a storm, that took out the electric thru the night.
Becky
Yeah, sort of:)
I actually stood on the porch for a few minutes, it was really bad, and I was a bit unerved to go out there:)
Becky
Y'all doing anything special for your aniversary, other than going on a nice trail ride?
We might go out to dinner... might not.. ;~D
Pretty low key, just trail riding... I'm pretty pleased with where we've gotten in a year... a year ago, he was just learning to ride on Bay, riding around here, and now he has his own horse and we have the trailer, and we're getting out on trail rides and having the life we planned to live together. ;~D
Still more to accomplish, but we're well on our way!
Here's some pictures of his cut, after I hosed it out. I put some cut heal on it. It's a little more then just the hair scraped off, but I don't think it is bad. Would you all wrap something like this. I never know. I think keeping them dry is as important as keeping them clean, and if I wrapped it, I think it would keep it moist. I worry about proud flesh on leg wounds.
Becky
You might wanna clipper the hair out of it. It looks like there's some hanging down in the wound from above. Other than that, I'd just wash it off every day with whatever you usually use for cuts and leave it open.
Sounds like you've both gotten off to a really good start. As long as you're both committed to the relationship no matter what, it'll all work out. Happy Aniversary, and many more!
Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought, other then the clipping which is a good idea. Your right, under the hair at the top edge is where the worst of the cut is.
I was thinking tho, I put splint boots on him when I work barrels, I'm wondering what that will do. That cut is right were the edges of the boot meets...darn, it's always something.
Becky
Well, then you might wanna wrap it with some gauze and some ointment to keep it from sticking before you put the boots on so the boot doesn't rub it.
Good idea. I've just never (knock on wood, thank goodness) dealt with that many cuts like this, and for trails I never use any kind of boot.
Becky
Becky, I saw that storm on the radar. We still aren't getting squat.
Cowtown told me to tell ya'll that he's stuck posting on this forum:
http://turfgrass.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Grass+Types&number=1
He said it's really sad.
It looks like we are going to get some more rain here too. It's clouding up again. i was just getting ready to start saddleing, but now I'm going to wait a bit:(
Becky
